ABVP forms human chain demanding 'Indianisation' of education.

Mangalore, March 21: Responding to a state-wide agitation call by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarathi Parishat, a large number of students belonging to various schools and colleges took to the streets in city on Wednesday seeking 'Indianisation' of education.

The ABVP activists formed a human chain at Basaveshwara Circle along NH 66 at Kadri Hills around 11:00 am.

Addressing the agitators, ABVP state vice-president Rohinaksha Shirlal said that it was necessary to indianise the entire education system in the country to bring a change in the future of the county.

“You must impart indainsed education to the students to make them responsible citizens of India and complete human beings”, he said.

“The current system across the country is a smack of what propounded by Lord Macaulay and has not changed much even after 65 years of independence”, he said

Mr Shirlal said that the BJP led Karnataka state government had taken firm steps towards Indianisation of education. However, the process is being opposed by vested interests based on their ideological inclinations, he lamented.

“When nations across the world have changed their education system to suit their local culture and beliefs, opposition to the same practice here is meaningless," he added.

ABVP State Secretary Ramesh, City Secretary Chinmay Rai, Preeteesh, Sharath Kumar, Deekshith, Arun, Mahesh, Jagadish, Santhosh, Aneesh and Vinay were present among others.

Udupi, Apr 20: Patients from outside the district visiting Udupi for emergency treatment should be in possession of a certificate, issued by the district health officer or taluk health officer, that they do not have any symptoms of Covid-19.

The decision was taken during an expert committee meeting chaired by Udupi Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha on Sunday.

The Deputy Commissioner said he will send a letter to all Deputy Commissioners in this regard. The patients from other districts will be treated in various hospitals in Udupi, only in case of emergency.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has expressed condolences over the death of nodal officer who died while being on COVID-19 duty and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakhs to the family of the deceased.

The deceased has been identified as H Gangadharaiah. As per reports, he died due to a heart attack while on COVID-19 duty.

A government job and Rs 25 lakhs will be provided to the officer's family, according to Karnataka Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

"Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa expressed his heartfelt condolences over the death of H Gangadharaiah, KAS, who was on COVID-19 duty as nodal officer at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC)," Karnataka CMO tweeted.

"CM announced Rs 25 lakhs ex-gratia from Chief Minister's Relief Fund, a government job for a family member and instructed the last rites of Gangadharaiah to be performed with full state honours," the CMO added.

In the last 24 hours, 7,178 new COVID-19 cases (including 2665 in Bengaluru Urban), 93 deaths and 5,006 discharged cases were reported in Karnataka.

The total number of cases rises to 1,72,102 in the state, including 79,765 active cases, 89,238 discharges and 3,091 deaths, as per the State's Health Department.

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 20: The twin districts of coastal Karnataka today reported seven new coronavirus cases. Six cases were reported from Udupi district and one from Dakshina Kannada.

All the six new coronavirus patients in Udupi have been admitted to Dr TMA Pai Covid hospital.

With the new case, 22 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including a one death. Three have recovered, and 18 are active.

55th case in Mangaluru

The new coronavirus patient in Dakshina Kannada is a 40-year-old woman from Neermarga near Mangaluru.

With this, the total number of cases in Dakshina Kannada has risen to 55 out of which 33 are currently active.

The woman had travelled from Rajajinagar in Bengaluru along with her son to Mangaluru on May 10.

Sources said that she was residing in two houses at Kudupu and Kuttikala.

She was suffering from Asthma and respiratory problems. She was admitted to Wenlock COVID hospital on May 17.
