Mangalore, April 7: An 11-year-old boy from Puttur has completed memorizing Qur'an in just eight months, much to the delight of his parents and the Ustad.

Abdunnasir, joined the newly set up Jalaluddin Maula Bukhari Hifzul Qur'an College last June and through sheer determination and hard work has outclassed his 10 other classmates.

“We have a special method of teaching memorizing skills. But this boy stood out from the rest because of his application and dedication,” says Hafiz Aslam, the Ustad at the college, which has its premises on the Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid in Bunder.

11-year-old Abdunnasir is the second of the four children of Ahmed and Maimuna, a couple living in Salmara in Puttur. He has a elder sister who is studying in eighth standard in Salmara school. He has two younger brothers who are nine and four years old.

Ahmed has been working as a Mu'allim at the Madrasa in Syed Male Jumma Masjid in Salmara for the past 14 years. When asked about what inspired him to put his children in the Hifzul Qur'an college, Mr. Ahmed says: “I can't tell you why. It is just for the Mohabbat (love) I have towards Qur'an.” Ashraf is a man of few words and would not like to get into more details about the talent of the boy. “Just pray for him,” he says.

On the other hand, Ustad Aslam is happy that his student has been able to draw the attention of the general public towards the Hifzul Qur'an college.

“Abdunnasir joined us after completing his sixth standard in his hometown. In all we have 11 children studying in our college. We make sure that all children focus on the memorizing tasks without getting distracted by games and fun. Probably, Abdunnasir was more studious than the rest,” he says.

Abdunnasir's feat, however, has not taken Ustad Alam by surprise. “He may have been good at memorizing that his classmates here. But in Calicut Darul Qur'an school, where I used to teach earlier, we have children who have accomplished the task in less than five months. We follow a unique method of teaching to enable them to memorize the surah's,” he says.

About the other students, he said, they are all doing good. “Some have completed 20 parts (Juz) and few others have competed 13 to 14 parts,” he says.

Mangalore Khazi Al-haj Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar and chairman of Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid Y. Abdulla Kunhi on Thursday felicitated the boy on his rare achievement.

Haji S.M. Rashid, trustees Haji Syed Ahmed Basha Thangal, Haji Mohammed Haneef, teacher Hafiz Mohammed Aslam, among others, were present.

The college will admit new students for the next academic year which starts in May. The interested can apply by the end of April, Haji S.M. Rashid said in a press release.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat.   They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains.   Will you be loyal to your duty and promise.   We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku.   You should follow the law and treat everyone equally.  There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar.   The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists.    We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.

New Delhi, Mar 19: Senior Congress leader Oscar Fernandes on Wednesday extolled the virtues of 'gaumutra' and shared an anecdote about a man claiming to have cured his cancer by drinking cow urine to drive his point home.

Participating in a debate in Rajya Sabha on two bills for setting up national commissions for homoeopathy and Indian systems of medicine, the former Union minister said, "My extreme friend Jairam Ramesh pulls my leg, when I talk of 'gaumutra'."

Sharing an anecdote, Fernandes said once during a visit to an ashram near Meerut he had met a person who claimed to have cured his cancer by drinking 'gaumutra'.

Many BJP leaders have earlier spoken about the healing power of 'gaumutra'. The Congress has reacted sharply to such remarks.

He also praised the virtues of the Indian systems of medicine. He said when he had severe pain in knee joint and doctors had suggested for replacement surgery. However, he refused and started doing 'Vajrasana'.

"I started Vajrasana, practising yoga, and today I am able to do wrestling without any difficulty," the septuagenarian leader said.

"When (former) prime minister (Atal Bihari) Vajypee ji had a knee surgery, I thought if I had known him earlier, I would have definitely gone to him and ask him to follow 'Vajrasan' and it could have been cured," he said.

He also claimed to have met a person in US aged around 104 years and moving swiftly as a young man.

"Yoga is our wealth. If you practise yoga, may be our budget cost of health can be reduced by 50 per cent. It's way of life," he said.

"Our own Indian systems of medicine will provide a lot of reliefs even before going to a doctor," he said.

Though Fernandes supported the bills but raised objection over the exclusion of yoga and naturopathy.

"I would urge the minister either to amend the bill or bring an assurance that it will bring a separate legislation to cover yoga and naturopathy," he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 6: There is a wide spread criticism by the Janata Dal(S) and Congress leaders over a proposal to rename Ramanagaram district as New (Nava) Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister CM Yediyurappa said on Monday.

“An unnecessary discussion on renaming Ramanagaram is under way. There is no thought before the government over renaming," The CM accused the Congress and JD(S) leaders of indulging in baseless discussion to mislead the people and to remain relevant. "There is no such agenda before the government. It is a joke that JD(S) and Congress leaders are starting a fight over it.”

The Chief Minister’s clarification came after criticism by former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who carved out the Ramanagaram district when he was Chief Minister, and former Minister DK Shivakumar whose Kanakapura constituency is in Ramanagaram district, after Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said Ramanagaram could be renamed as Nava Bengaluru to increase investments prospects.
