Mangalore, April 19: Having received a clean chit from Legislature Committee, former minister and Mangalore North MLA Krishna J Palemar has launched a legal battle against a prominent Kannada news channel for allegedly engaging in slanderous campaign against him and airing porn clippings.

Demanding 'justice', he has filed a private complaint in the junior magistrate first class (JMFC) II, which has directed the Mangalore North Police Station to register a case.

In his complaint, Palemar also alleged that due to the mala fide reports aired by the 'Suvarna News 24X7', he not only lost ministerial berth but also lost his public image and people got wrong notion about him. He accused the channel of committing a crime under Information Technology Act.

It can be recalled that Television footage of Legislative Assembly proceedings on February 7 showed Lakshman S Savadi watching porn clips and C C Patil, sitting next to him, also having a look at it, on a mobile phone of J Krishna Palemar. The three had to quit as ministers the next day following public outrage.

After several sittings, the four-member House committee — constituted to investigate into the issue had submitted its report to Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah last month.

The report says that there is no evidence against two MLAs Mr Patil and Mr Palemar, while the third MLA Mr Savadi, has already apologised to the committee.

The panel, chaired by Shrishailappa Bidarur, had summoned representatives of two television channels and the three MLAs and questioned them on the episode, besides consulting top officials of the Law Department, before finalising the report.

Mangaluru, Jun 1: A youth was hacked to death and two others suffered critical injuries following a fight between two gangs at Yekkaru Devaragudde near Kateel under the limits of Bajpe police station last night.

The deceased has been identified as Keertan (20), a resident of Marakada. The injured are Nitin (20) and Manesh (20). It is learnt that old animosity led to the attack and murder.

According to sources, members of both gangs were friends in the past. They had become enemies of each other following a fight regarding sand mining.

Sources said that Keertan, Nitin, and Manesh had reportedly invited their rival gang to Devaragudde for some discussion. A verbal friction arose between the two gangs and it culminated in the attack by the rival gang members with daggers. Keertan reportedly died on the sport. The other two were taken to hospital.

The accused fled the scene soon after committing the crime. A case has been registered at Bajpe police station. A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.
