Moodbidri: Group clash at Shamsul Ulama Arabic College leaves seven injured

Moodbidri, April 21: At least seven persons injured when a clash broke out between two groups belonging to same community at Shamsul Ulama Arabic College here, over a trivial issue people on Friday afternoon.

The injured have been identified as B A Usman, his son Ashraf and Abdul Nazeer of one group, and Hussein, Imthiyaz, Ashraf and Abdul Rehman of another group. The injured are out of danger, sources said.

Sources from Moodbidri police station said there were allegations against Shamul Ulama Arabic College, that the Trust at the College was misusing money collected from students.

Following that Badriya Juma Masjid Management Committee president asked its members not to join the second year annual celebration of Shamsul Ulama Arabic College without permission from the Committee president.

Enraged over this, the Trust members went to Shamsul Ulama Arabic College and attacked Badriya Juma Masjid president B A Usman and others. The two groups allegedly abused and assaulted each other with lethal weapons and hockey sticks.

A case has been registered as Moodabidri police station.

Bengaluru, Mar 24: The state government on Tuesday published names and addresses of 14,000 people who have been placed under home quarantine, on its website.  

A district wise break up of the home quarantine patients was also provided.  

Notably, the number of coronavirus cases has risen to 41 in the state.

Mangaluru, Jul 4: In the wake of mounting coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada, all jewellery shops district will be closed for five days from July 5 to July 9.

The decision was taken by the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Jewellers’ Association.

All the jewellery shops including corporate jewellery shops in Manglauru and other parts of district will remain closed for five days, a media release said.

Udupi, Mar 1: Acting on credible information, Udupi district police arrested five persons and seized 1.35 kg of crude gold worth Rs 56.99 lakh from the possession of the accused, custom department said on Sunday.

A case has been registered against four people at Kundapur and one at Byndoor on charges of gold smuggling. The accused were transporting gold from Calicut to Bhatkal, informed Joannes George, joint Commissioner of Customs.

Off these five accused, four persons were held at Kundapur, while other at Byndoor on Saturday evening.
