Team Mangalore conquers the Korean skies

Mangalore, April 21: Team Mangalore, a city-based hobby group of kite flyers, on invitation from organisers of Uiseong Garlic International Kite Festival, Korea, participated in the International Kite Festival held from April 11 to 16 at Uiseong, South Korea as representatives from India.

The Team participated in the unique kite festival organised for the second time in Korea. This festival was organised by the local government of Uiseong County and Korean Kite Flyers Association.

In the kite flying event held from April 13 to 15 the Team Mangalore showcased some of the best kites to the Koreans. The event had participation from over 25 countries and about 160 kite flyers of international fame around the world and they showcased their collection of kites. A team of four members viz., Giridhar Kamath, Subhash Pai, Vasanth Kumar Sanil and Janardhan Rao participated in this mega event.

Team Mangalore kites such as Kathakali, Yakshagana, Durga, Gajaraja, Owl and Pushpaka Vimana got appreciation from the people of Korea. The members conducted workshops for the children and trained them to make Indian Fighter Kites and also entertained specially challenged children. Team also gifted unique Indian kites to the children.

The Team also performed 'Candy Drop' from sky from a doll attached to kites. Many children and parents participated in this event. This show attracted huge weekend camping crowd on both the days of the festival and the team got appreciation from the organisers.

Giridhar Kamath entertained the gathering with a Yakshagana performance. The people of Korea were fascinated by the costume and clicked photographs with him.

Earlier, Team Mangalore had participated in various international kite festivals held at Canada, UK, France, Thailand, Korea, Sri Lanka, Dubai and recently it had participated in the International Kite Festival held at Qatar.

Team has also performed in Belgaum International Kite Festival held on January 15 and 16 January, organised in aid of soldiers. In January this year the team had also successfully organised ONGC-MRPL International Kite Festival at Panambur beach.

In all, the team has once again showcased cultural heritage of India to the Koreans. Presently, a four member team is in Italy and is participating in the Artevento International Kite Festival being held at Cervia, Italy.

Udupi, Mar 14: Amidst growing Coronavirus scare, a youth with suspected Coronavirus symptoms was admitted to Udupi District Hospital here, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Sudhir Chandrachud said.

According to him, A 37-year-old youth, a native of Shirwa, who works in a Japanese ship and was onboard a Japanese vessel that was recently blocked due to the coronavirus. However, he was left out on its way to Dubai, where he was diagnosed with coronavirus infection and he returned to his native.

However, he did not show any of the primary symptoms of coronavirus, such as cough, cold, fever, but he was suffering from diarrhea and abdominal pain with slight respiratory problems following which he has been admitted to an isolated ward in the district hospital here on Friday evening.

Bengaluru, May 24: A couple got married in Bengaluru today, even as Karnataka government has announced a complete lockdown on Sundays, as part of the fourth phase of COVID-19 shutdown till the end of this month.

The marriage ceremony on this Sunday was possible thanks to a clarification given by the state government for marriages, which has been already scheduled for May 24 and May 31 to be exempted from the Sunday complete lockdown.

At today's wedding, the rituals were performed with compliance of all guidelines including ensuring social distancing and capping the number of guests at 50.

Satish, the groom said, "Government has allowed weddings with up to 50 people in attendance but we decided to invite only 25 people to the ceremony".

Meanwhile, in the Honnali Honnali area of Davanagere, BJP MLA MP Renukacharya distributed masks to three newly-wed couples.

As per an earlier advisory issued by the State government more than 50 guests, no air conditioning, and the consumption of liquor and paan are among the guidelines to be followed for holding weddings in the state. Also, people aged above 65 and below 10 as well as pregnant women have been barred from participating in the event.

According to the advisory, sanitisers should be provided at the entry and other appropriate places at the venue. Also, thermal screening of all persons shall be conducted at the entry of the venue. The scanner should be held 3-15 cms away from a person's forehead.

Apart from this, the venue shall be "clean and hygienic," and a "nodal person shall be identified for overseeing the arrangements and coordination at the venue." Also, a list of attendees with contact details has to be maintained and all guests should have downloaded Aarogya Setu app.

Bengaluru, Apr 6: The Covid-19 Task Force aims to conduct 80,000 throat swab and blood tests over the next three weeks here.

According to Task Force Nodal Officer C N Manjunath an order for one lakh anti-body test kits has been placed, and was expected to arrive on April 12.

"From January 20 to March 23, more than 1.2 lakh people arrived at international airports from abroad. Of these, we have kept 37,358 under observation. The Health officials and personnel in fever clinics and hospitals are being trained to conduct the tests. There is no necessity to obtain a clearance to test people with suspected infection. Only laboratories need to get permission to test their blood and throat swab samples."
