Udupi, April 24: Taranath Sherigar (34), son of Guruva Sherigar, Chitpady, who had ventured in to Udyavara river to catch crabs was drowned in the river, near Pithrodi on Tuesday.
He was working in a furniture workshop near Hanuman Garage, Chitpady, Udupi.
Taranath and five of his friends had entered the river water in the morning to catch crabs. As they were returning after the crab catch all the six were washed away in the river water due to high tide.
Though five of them swam to the river bank, Taranath drowned in the river and his body was recovered at around 6 pm.
Kaup police registered a case.
