M'lore in dire need of an international cricket stadium: Streak

Mangalore, April 28: The trophy for the 'Heath Streak Corporation Bank Mohtisham T20 International Cricket Cup 2012' was unveiled by Heath Streak, Former Zimbabwe captain, in Mangalore on Saturday.

The T20 match is to be played on Sunday at NMPT Cricket Stadium, Suratkal, at 2 pm between team Zimbabwe (named as Property Infratech Zimbabwe Africans) and team Mangalore (named as The Western Institute Karnataka Indians).

Speaking on the occasion, Heath Streak said that the match is being played to raise funds for the Heath Streak Foundation to help the needy.

Recalling his playing days, Mr. Streak said that Sachin Tendulkar and Mathew Hayden were the two toughest batsmen he had ever bowled to. Stating that known names such as Ravi Shastri hail from Mangalore, Mr. Streak said that the city is in dire need of an international cricket stadium.

Other prominent Zimbabwe players such as Grant Flower, Brendon Taylor, Douglas Marillier, Elton Chigumbura, Raymond Price and the like were also welcomed on the occasion.

Joseph Rego, Head of the Heath Streak Foundation said that the Foundation is in negotiation with Corporation Bank to launch a 'Child Education Certificate' valued at Rs. 2000 that would be distributed to poverty stricken children deprived of basic education.

The Foundation is also in negotiation with Unity Hospital, the official and exclusive healthcare partner of the T20 tourney, for an association to establish a childcare plan, which financially benefits poor and needy children suffering from heart disorders, Mr. Rego said.

Team jerseys were also unveiled on the occasion.

Team Mangalore: Janardhan (Captain), Daniel, Naushad, Divesh, Sadik, Gurudeep, Nihal, Mahesh, Sampath K, Sampath A, Vinay, Sumith, Rahul, Aditya, Bhatkal, aSachin and Sohail.

Mysuru, Jan 20: As the Karnataka state Congress is still awaiting the appointment of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President, MLA Satish Jarkiholi has said that in order to balance the caste and regional equations, All India Congress Committee (AICC) was planning to create four working presidents posts for KPCC.

Talking to media personnel here on Sunday, Mr Jarkiholi, who is considered to be in the race for the post, said that a clear picture about the constitution of additional posts of the working president in the KPCC would emerge in a week.

He added that it has been delayed due to the Assembly elections in Delhi.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu on Thursday clarified that his remarks have been misinterpreted, wherein he apparently said that ''only God can save people from Covid''.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader slammed KPCC President D K Shivakumar for spreading false information and said that my words were not meant to cause panic among the masses.

''Respected Shivakumar, this is a clarification regarding my words that have been misinterpreted and misunderstood.

While responding to claims of the opposition that the government’s negligence, irresponsibility and the lack of coordination among ministers are responsible for the rise in cases in the state, I stated that ‘these accusations are far from the truth. People need to be aware and cautious to avoid the spread of the virus. This plays a vital role in controlling the pandemic. If we fail at this crucial step the situation can get complicated. And if things go worse, then only God can save us'', Mr Sriramulu said in a series of posts on Twitter

Udupi, May 12: The Coastal Bus Owner’s Association members have approached Deputy Commissioner to permit them to run bus service in the District.

Nearly 80 buses coming under the Coastal Bus Association and they are prepared to run the buses as per the guidelines set by the government. They have also requested RTO officials for permission to operate and are awaiting approval. If the bus service starts operating, many workers like drivers, conductors, cleaners, mechanics will get employment.

Coastal Bus Owners Association President Raghavendra Bhat said that the bus owners must provide services to the public as per regulations set by Deputy Commissioner.
