Good Wheel inaugurated in Mangalore

Mangalore, April 29: A modern shop of tyres an wheels alignment 'Good Wheel' was inaugurated on Sunday in the city.

Haji K S Sayeed Karnire formally inaugurated the shop located in front of Syndicate Bank, Bikarnakatte, here.

Mangalore Mayor Gulzar Banu, who was chief guest, speaking on the occasion said that shops like 'Good Wheel' are symbols of development in the city.

Abhaychandra Jain, MLA, Mulki-Moodbidri constituency, Puis James D'Souza, Superior, Infant Jesus Shrine, Y Mohammed Kunhi, Member, Karnataka State Wakf Board, Rajendra Rao Maipady, Advocate, PMA Razzak, CMD, Plama Developers Ltd, PM Castelino, former Mayor, Mangalore, were also present on the occasion.

Kolar, May 7: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for biting a snake and peeling off its skin at Mustur village in Kolar district of Karnataka.

Mulbagal range forest officer KN Ravikeerthi said forest officials nabbed Kumar, a construction worker, at Mustur on Wednesday and booked him under the Wildlife Protection Act. He was under the influence of alcohol.

Ravikeerthi said Kumar's offence is non-bailable and attracts a jail term of up to three years. The remains of the snake were collected and sent to a lab to ascertain its species. Forest officials said the snake Kumar bit was not a viper as was reported earlier but a rat snake.

On Tuesday, Kumar was riding back home after buying liquor when the snake ca me under his bike's wheels. He tossed the injured snake around his neck, bit it and peeled off its skin. Kumar said the snake had troubled him in the past.

Bengaluru, May 20: 63 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,458 on Wednesday, said the state Health Department.

The total number of cases includes, 864 active cases and 41 deaths (one due to non-COVID cause), it added.

Total 10 people have been discharged today while 553 persons have been discharged so far.

Udupi, Jul 22: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh on Wednesday announced lifting of ban on movement of people and vehicles with immediate effect in the borders of Kerala which was banned during lockdown.

The announcement comes hours after Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that lockdown in Bengaluru and other parts of the state will not be extended any further, suggesting people should wear masks and maintain physical distancing strictly.

Mr Jagadeesh noted that although the seal down of the borders of the district would be lifted, checkposts on the border would be set up and urged people to enter the district only in case of emergency.
