M'lore's eye specialist killed in Bangalore Volvo crash

Mangalore, May 2: City-based eye specialist Dr Rajwin Fernandes was killed on spot when the KSRTC Volvo bus in which he was travelling to Bangalore met with an accident near Kunigal Tuesday night.

The 43-year-old Ophthalmologist was the owner of Trinity Eye Centre in Valencia, here.

The tragedy occurred when the bus driver lost control over his vehicle after overtaking a truck. It is learnt that the speeding bus skidded off the road killing Dr Fernandes and injuring four others.

The Ophthalmologist's father Roque Fernandes, who was also travelling in the same bus along with his son miraculously escaped with minor injuries.

Dr Fernandes is survived by his parents, wife Zeena D'Souza, son Ronel Fernandes and a large number of relatives and friends.

Mangaluru, Jan 24: The third annual nocturnal Mangaluru Kambala, also known as the Rama Lakshmana Kambala, will be held on the night of January 25 at Goldfinch City in Bangra Kuluru, Mangaluru Kambala Samithi president Brijesh Chowta announced on Friday.

The all-night Kambala will have six categories - Naegilu Kiriya, Hagga Kiriya, Naegilu Hiriya, Hagga Hiriya, Kane Halage and Adda Halage.

The event will be inaugurated at 0930 hrs on January 25 and another programme will be held at 1800 hrs.

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murty has sent the second consignment of N95 Masks, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Sanitisers worth about Rs 73 lakhs, City police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha said on Sunday.

"These will be primarily used by Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics of Wenlock Hospital here and masks by the frontline staff of ASHA and police at risk of exposure to the virus,” Dr Harsha tweeted on Sunday.

The district has received the first consignment with critical medical equipment worth Rs 28 lakh from the Infosys foundation on Saturday, March 28.

Madikeri, Mar 16: Three suspected cases of COVID-19, who returned from a foreign country recently have been admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital here, the district administration said on Monday.

The samples of the suspected cases have been sent for lab tests and the reports are being awaited, sources said.

As many as 74 people have been placed under home quarantine in Kodagu (also known as Coorg) as a precautionary measure following their return from abroad, a press note from the Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy said.
