Karwar, May 3: Manzar Husain Sayed, an engineering graduate, has been appointed new administrator to the Uttara Kannada Wakf Advisory Committee by the Government on Wednesday.
Mr. Sayed told presspersons that his priority was to survey the property of wakf board in the district and if any property was encroached upon by any person or organisation, it would be cleared. He would concentrate on the education of the Muslims, he said.
There were 417 educational institutions under the wakf board in the district. The grant given by the Government to these institutions would be used in the right manner, he said.
Muslim students studied in madrasas and the institutions of wakf boards taught only Arabic.
But now it teaches science, mathematics, and other subjects along with religious education under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme. This would help Muslims compete effectively in the job market, he said.
The literacy rate among Muslim girls was less compared to other religions. Here Muslim girls would be encouraged to go to schools. For their higher education, Rs. 20,000 a girl student would be given by the wakf board, he said.
Mr. Sayed said that many Muslims had no knowledge of the wakf law and awareness would be given in this regard. Scholars from each taluk would be elected as a member of the board, he said.
