Mangalore, May 9: More than 11 years after an officer of Karnataka Bank was shot dead on the bank premises, in the city a security guard was convicted on Tuesday.
The Second Additional Session Court Judge sentenced the in B Sudhakar, who as then working as an armed security guard at Kodiabail branch of the Bank, to life imprisonment.
It can be recalled that the guard, who was provided a gun for security purposes, misused it by firing at bank officer U Ramakrishna (52) on April 2, 2001.
Sudhakar had taken this step alleging alleging that the officer had reported negatively about his character to higher officials.
Following the incident, Mangalore North Police arrested the accused from Urwa Cashew factory when he was attempting to abscond and filed a case against him. A pigmy collector was a prime witness to the crime.
The advocate in favour of the accused claimed that his client was mentally-ill. But, public prosecutor Venkataramana Swamy ruled out the claim and convicted him of murder.
