Keralite murdered by compatriot in Saudi Arabia

Kasargod/Riyadh, May 12: A 45-year-old Indian expatriate worker has been murdered allegedly by a compatriot in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.

Shasthitharan, was murdered by his friend Sunil on Tuesday, media reports said.

The murder is said to have taken place in the early hours of Tuesday, when accused Sunil went into Shasthitharan's room while he was asleep and stabbed him several times with a kitchen knife.

Both the victim and accused are residents of Kerala. According to the media reports, both used to live in the same building in a residential complex in Batha city center in different apartments in the capital.

Police arrested Sunil hours after the incident. The victim was married and his wife Saumini lives in Kerala. Shasthitharan had been living in Saudi Arabia since 1985.

He had returned to Riyadh only 45 days ago following his annual vacation.

Sunil is believed to have confessed his crime but the police are currently carrying out investigations to find out if more people were involved in the murder. The motive of the killer is also not known.

Mysuru, Feb 26: The Pre-University Education Department was taking several measures to prevent paper leaks during the II PU examinations, scheduled to commence from March 4, a statement said on Tuesday.

Among the few measures that the board has chalked out, students would not be allowed to leave the examination hall till the last bell. In case of any emergency, the student could leave the exam hall but s/he would be required to surrender the question paper to authorities in the hall.

This is being done to ensure question papers aren’t circulated during exam hours by those who exit the hall before the last bell.

Udupi, May 17: A total of 1,460 migrant labourers left for Uttar Pradesh from Indrali Railway Station in Udupi in Shramik Special train on Sunday.

This is the first train to ferry migrant labourers from Udupi. As many as 236 from Karkala, 323 from Kundapura, 901 labourers from Brahmavar, Kaup and Udupi left for their native villages.

More than 2,000 labourers had gathered at the railway station and only 1,460 labourers received tickets to travel.

Those who did not receive tickets were disappointed and got into heated arguments with the officials.

The labourers were promised that they will receive tickets to another train, that would depart from Udupi before May 20. One bogie of the train was reserved for pregnant women, women and children.

As many as 1,712 from Jharkhand, 770 from Odisha, 977 from West Bengal, 1,600 from Bihar, 379 from Madhya Pradesh, 280 from Chattisgarh, 110 from Uttarkhand, 379 from Rajasthan had registered on Seva Sindhu portal.

Additional Deputy Commissioner B Sadashiva Prabhu said that there are plans to make arrangements to send migrant labourers from UP, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: Karnataka Primary and Higher Education Minister Suresh Kumar on Thursday clarified that the SSLC examinations have not canceled as being claimed by many. 

Taking to Twitter, he said there was confusion among students and parents as wrong news was published in a some of the news papers and even in social media also.
