Udupi, May 19: A pillion rider opened fire at a bakery at Ambagilu here, creating panic in the area. However, no was hurt in the Thursday night's incident.
The Udupi Town police on Friday said that two persons came on a motorcycle in front of the Adarsh Bakery around 10 p.m. The pillion rider got down from the motorcycle with a gun in his hand. He fired one round at the lower portion of the glass showcase of the bakery. As a result, the glass showcase, including some items kept, got damaged. But no one was hurt in the incident. Later, the gunman escaped from the scene on the same motorcycle.
According to sources in the police department, the motive behind shooting a bullet was suspected to be threat for extorting money. Of the two persons who came on the motorcycle, one was wearing a helmet, while the other had covered his face with a handkerchief.
A case had been registered and investigations were on.
