Mangalore, May 25: Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy has plans to teach Tulu to school students in Tulu script itself, said Academy President Umanath Kotian.

Tulu is being taught in the schools already using Kannada scripts. But the Academy has plans to prepare the syllabus in Tulu script and introduce it in schools, he said. He was speaking after releasing 'Tulu Aksharamale' book authored by G V S Ullal.

Appreciateing the attempt, he said that the Tulu script used in the book is certified by scholars like Punichithaya and S R Vighnaraj. The book will put an end to the confusions that were prevailing regarding the Tulu script. Perhaps, the newly released book would turn out to be the text with authentic Tulu script in future, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, guest of honour and Tulu scholar Vighnaraj stressed on the need to preserve the manuscripts consisting of Tulu scripts.

“Thousands of manuscripts with Devanagari, Nandinagari and Tulu scripts are available in the coastal districts, but unfortunately they are not preserved with care. These manuscripts throw light on several unknown issues, hence they should be protected and preserved,” he said.

Author of the work G V S Ullal said that the idea of publishing a book on Tulu script was developed way back in 2005. With the help of a few sponsorers he was able to publish it.
