Mangalore, May 29: The Bharat Bundh announced against the petrol price hike by the central government is unnecessary, said B Janardana Poojary, Congress leader.
Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Poojary said that no government likes to trouble people by raising prices but in view of maintaining India's economy, the step was necessary.
Lashing out at the critics of the Manmohan Singh led government, Mr. Poojary said that when the Prime Minister remains silent, his silence is condemned and he is blamed for inaction but when tough measures are taken, the government is criticized for taking tough measures.
The veteran Congress leader lamented that coalition parties in the UPA government too have expressed displeasure over the price hike.
Stating that a meeting of the oil companies is scheduled to be held soon, he said that there are chances of the price reducing by 1.5 to 2 Rs per litre.
