Motorist knocked down by tipper

Padubidri, June 2: Ahmed Husain, a motorbike rider, died on spot when he was knocked down by a speeding tipper here on Saturday.

The tragedy occurred when Husain was negotiating a turn at a petrol bunk after giving proper indications. The tipper which was coming from the direction of Udupi rammed into the motorbike, eye witnesses said.

Police quoted eye witness accounts as saying that the main reason for the accident was the reckless and negligent driving on part of tipper driver, who ignored the indication given by the rider.

The impact of the accident was such that Husain was thrown onto the road and died on spot.

A case has been registered at jurisdictional police station.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: In order to bring uniform act for all universities in the state under the Karnataka University Act 2017, the state government formed a committee in this connection.

As per the instruction of deputy chief minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan, higher education department has issued an order to form a committee under the chairmanship of R Vasudeva Athre.

The other members are former Bengaluru university Vice-Chancellor Prof B Thimmegoda, IIT Bengaluru director Prof Sadagopan, Srusti institute of arts and design technology Geetha Narayan Srusti, centre of educational and social studies president Dr M K Sridhat and state higher education parishad Executive Director Dr M S Kori, co-member of the committee.

Kasaragod, Jul 27: Seven persons belonging to two relative-families who attended a funeral recently had been tested positive for Coronavirus on Monday.

Sources said the two families had been to Thavinjal near here for the funeral of a man who died at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on July 19.

Later, the samples of these seven persons were sent for testing after they developed symptoms of COVID-19, the result of which came out on Monday.
