Mangalore, June 4: George Fernandes was the key player in introducing Konkan railway and hence the Mangalore Central Railway Station must be renamed after him.
This was one of the proposals put forward by members of the George Fernandes Vichara Vedike, Mangalore, before Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Karnataka Assembly, at a seminar organized as part of the birth anniversary celebrations of the veteran BJP leader in Mangalore on Monday.
In response, Mr. Bhat said that the proposal will be considered by the government and an apt decision would be taken after the Legislative Council polls.
Recalling the contributions of Mr. Fernandes, Mr. Bhat said that he was a great leader and prayed for his recovery.
Sharing his thoughts with the gathering on the occasion, Micheal Fernandes, brother of the senior BJP leader who is currently suffering from Alzheimer's disease, said that he is unhappy about staying in Delhi with his wife.
“Although George wants us to take him away from there, the court rules do not permit us to do so. There needs to be an amendment in the rules which can allow us and many other people who want to take care of their dear ones to do so”, he said.
J C Madhu Swami, former MLA, Chikkanayakanahalli, also spoke about his association with Mr. George and his personality on the occasion.
