Seven interstate dacoits including three women arrested

Mangalore, June 6: A team of police from Belthangady station have arrested seven young interstate dacoits, including three women at Charmadi Check post.

The arrested have been identified as N Basavraj (23), Lokesh (24), Ganesh (25), Saroha (44), Kavita (28), Manjula (35) and Srinivas alias Sheena (25) from Tamil Nadu.

They were produced before the court, which remanded them to judicial custody for 15 days.

Police said that the arrested were involved in several dacoity cases. They had robbed an individual on May 30 near Ujire and taken away a sum of Rs 6,640, ATM card and mobile phone.

The gang was nabbed by the teams headed by Belthangady Circle Inspector Bhaskar Rai and S I Yogesh Kumar, while they were travelling in a vehicle.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of SP Abhishek Goyal and ASP Anucheth. Three special teams were formed to nab the gang

Bengaluru, Apr 21: An FIR has been filed against a Kannada TV anchor allegedly for organising a guest packed wedding at a resort near Bengaluru last week amid lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Police got the tip-off about the event held on April 18 by locals residing near the resort. Around 20 people were present there to attend the wedding.

The FIR has been filed under National Disaster Management Act (NDMA) and Section 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code.

Bengaluru, Jul 13: In an attempt to avoid the ugly scene of migrant workers walking to their native places due to the current week-long lockdown imposed in the state, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is running 1,600 additional buses on Monday and Tuesday to help them return safely.

The KSRTC has already run 249 additional buses from the State capital and has so far ferried 6,641 passengers and 231 buses have been booked.

The KSRTC appealed to the public not to panic as additional buses have been deployed. "After ensuring social distance and conducting thermal screening, passengers will be allowed to travel. It has already been planned to operate additional buses," the corporation stated in a press release here.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: A teenage boy, who was critically injured in a road accident at Manchi village in Bantwal taluk, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city today.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Unais (17), a resident of Bolanthoor village.  

The mishap occurred yesterday (July 31) at around 6 p.m. when Unais was riding a motorbike.

In his bid to overtake a speeding lorry near the Manchi mosque, the boy lost control over his motorbike, which first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then collided with the same lorry. 

The impact was such that the boy was thrown onto the road. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. 

He breathed his last early today without responding to any treatment. 

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Melkar Traffic Police Station and investigations are on.
