Mangalore, June 6: The act of Mangalore City Corporation officials, who allegedly yielding to the pressure from Sangh Parivar activists, raided a beef-carrying auto rickshaw in the city on Wednesday, has raised many eyebrows.
The officials intercepted a hired auto-rickshaw, in which a passenger was carrying a few kilograms of beef purchased from MCC's beef stall at Kankanady.
Sources said that though it was not illegal transportation MCC officials summoned the workers of MCC beef stall house and a veterinary doctor for official confirmation.
The officials also allegedly warned the auto-rickshaw driver for allowing the customer to carry beef in his vehicle, which was meant for passenger transportation. However, they did not seize the beef.
The bizarre incident occurred when a team of MCC officials were carrying out an inspection at a beef stall in Kankanady Market.
It is learnt that a group of Sangh Parivar activist in Kankanady had asked the officials to stop the auto-rickshaw.
MCC has been regularly raiding illegal businesses across the city for the past several days. It can be recalled here that an illegal slaughter house was also raided in Kudroli a few of days ago.
