Mangalore, June 8: The developments in educational field that took place during the 20 month tenure of the JDS-BJP coalition government are being highlighted by BJP's MLC candidate from Graduates' constituency D H Shankaramurthy as his own. He must produce evidence to prove that they were indeed his suggestions before taking credit, said H D Kumaraswamy, State President, JDS.
Addressing mediapersons at a press meet in Mangalore on Friday to campaign for JDS candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council polls.
Mr. Kumaraswamy said that prior to him becoming Chief Minister, 169 government first grade colleges existed in the state. In his 20 month tenure as CM, 1,400 high schools, 500 junior colleges, 189 first grade colleges, 6 medical and 6 engineering colleges along with polytechnic colleges, he said.
The BJP government has not recruited teachers and has not kept its promises. It doesn't have the moral right to seek votes, Mr. Kumaraswamy said.
Financial aid in the form of Rs. 2,000 scholarship to youth studying law, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 75,000 subsidy to poor engineering and Medical students, which was being given in his time has been discontinued by BJP government, he groused.
