Mangalore, June 15: In a gut-wrenching accident, a two-year-old girl child plunged to death from the balcony of her second-floor flat in Valencia late on Thursday.

Deeda Aabida is the second daughter of Muhammad Muslim and Noor Jahan couple. Mr. Muslim is working as the marketing manager with Vartha Bharathi, Kannada Daily. The girl was rushed to a private hospital in the city immediately after the incident at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The girl was declared dead at 12.30am on Friday as doctors' efforts to save the child failed.

A team of doctors consisting of Dr. Kishore Shetty, Dr. Devadiga along with the resident doctors at the Unity Health Complex tried their best to save the child. But since the brain was directly affected due to the impact of the fall, and the supply of oxygen to the brain had been snapped, the efforts to save her failed, sources in the family said.

The tragedy has left the parents, family and friends in deep shock. She was a very cute and adorable child, said a neighbour. The girl was playing in the balcony minutes before the fatal fall. She apparently dragged a plastic chair into the balcony and climbed over it. “I rushed to the spot immediately. Since none of the cars of the flat owners was available, we sought the help of the neighbour. Within minutes we took her to the hospital,” said the watchman.

He attributes the tragedy to destiny. “The child should have survived considering the quick response. But, the God must have had a different plan,” he said.

The post-mortem was conducted at the mortuary of the Government Wenlock Hospital before the body being handed over to the family at 4 a.m.

The janazah namaz and tadfeen held at Jumma Masjid Bunder in the morning.

A case has been registered at the Pandeshwar police station.

Bengaluru, Feb 14: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Vishvesha Hegde Kageri on Friday announced continuation of ban on private TV channels from live coverage of the Budget Session being held this Month and next month.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kageri said that the ban was imposed on the lines of practice in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the Parliament. Private channels will not be allowed to cover live on going session instead they will be provided with clippings by the concerned Department as was done during the previous Session.

For the first time in the history the BJP government, which had come to power for the second time in the state last year after pulling down Congress-JDS coalition government, had banned live coverage of the session by private channels and despite Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's appeal the ban was not lifted.
