Karwar, July 1: In a major fire mishap, the office of the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Karwar was destroyed in the early hours of Saturday.
The fire spread quickly despite heavy rain, destroying four computers, furniture and some documents.
The files that were kept in the steel cupboards were also burnt.
The fire, which was spotted at 4.30 a.m., was doused by personnel of Fire Force after an hour-long operation. An electrical short circuit is said to be the reason for fire.
The loss is yet to be assessed. Senior officials of the Fisheries Department visited the office.
