Implement PM's 15 point prog to tackle communal crimes'

Mangalore, July 3: The district unit of Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV) has urged the central government to declare the undivided Dakshina Kannada district as a communally sensitive region besides implementing the Prime Minister's 15 point programme that deals with action against perpetrators of communal crimes.

Addressing media persons at a press meet in Mangalore on Tuesday, Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, President, KKSV, DK, said that incidents of disturbing peace in the region have been taking place on a regular basis in the district of late. The attack on Holy Hill prayer hall, attacks involving cow transportation issue at Jeppu, Kalladka and Kottara testify this, Mr. Bakrabail said.

Stating that 'Sanathan Sanstha', an organisation under the radar of National Investigation Agency (NIA), had organised a lecture on 'Hindu Rashtra' in one of the prestigious colleges of the city, besides distributing provocative literature and 'Hindu Rashtra' calenders, Mr. Bakrabail said that police and district administration are watching the proceedings as mere spectators.

Cases have been registered against the likes of Dr. Binayak Sen, K K Shahina, Soni Sori, Seema Azad besides other human rights activists and journalists but no action is being taken against communal forces who want to build a 'Hindu Rashtra', Mr. Bakrabail said.

K L Ashok, State Chief Secretary, KKSV, alleged that incidents of communal violence have been on the rise of late as BJP government is trying to divert people's attention away from its corruption and create a Hindu vote bank.

The central government must implement the 13th and 14th points of the Prime Minister's 15 point programme to tackle communal crimes immediately, he demanded. The points provide that impartial police officers must be appointed in communally sensitive areas. Controlling communal disharmony is one of the prime duties of the district SP. The points also provide that strict action be taken against perpetrators of communal violence and special courts be set up to handle such cases, Mr. Ashok said.

KKSV members P B D'Sa, Victor D'Silva, Mohammed Kakkinje, Kabir Ullal and others were present.

Bengaluru, Jan 12: Protesters plan to intensify their anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act movement from sit-down satyagrahas and rallies to street and door-to-door campaigns in different parts of the city.

The street campaigns began on January 1 with 20-30 volunteers of Hum Bharat Ke Log, reaching out to people in Koramangala and Whitefield and explaining the CAA, National Population Register (NPR), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and related issues. They have organised four campaigns.

According to Zia Nomani, member of Hum Bharat Ke Log, the campaign will intensify soon. “Over 200-400 volunteers will organise nukkad sabhas and other activities around JP Nagar and Banashankari,” Nomani said.

She added that though protests began as a medium for people to vent their concerns, more needs to be done.

“We have realised that many people have begun working on their personal documents and want to help them understand what CAA is all about,” Nomani said.

Volunteers will talk to people at street junctions, discuss issues and run signature campaigns. They say: “Our movement is focussed on reaching out to people. Pro-CAA workers too started a door-to-door campaign last week.”

Avani Chokshi, an advocate who participated in a campaign, said though people had a cursory idea about these issues, they didn’t know the details. “It through such campaigns that we can reach more people. It’s important to talk to people who haven’t made up their mind about the issues or are even pro-CAA,” said Avani, adding, “It hard to combat hatred in a short span of time. The movement needs to be sustained.”

Activist Geeta Menon, who has been at the forefront of the street campaign, says they were heckled at some places.

Shivamogga, Aug 5: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday hailed the laying of foundation stone (bhoomi pujan) for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and said "Kashi Vishwanath and "Krishna Janmasthan temples have to be liberated".

"It is a good day that the foundation stone for Ram Temple has been laid. A beautiful temple will come up, but there are Kashi Vishwanath and Krishna Janmasthan temples which have to be liberated," Eshwarappa said.

The minister said that there is a "sign of slavery" at Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

"The whole nation is dreaming of Shri Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple. I have visited the two temples. 

There is a sign of slavery. Mosques are there at holy places. When I visited the place at Mathura, I witnessed the wall. When we look at the wall, we feel like we are still slaves," he said.

"While visiting Kashi, there is also a structure of slavery. Dream of Hindus is fulfilled in Ayodhya. One day, it will be fulfilled in Mathura and Kashi. Mathura Sri Krishna and Kashi Vishwanath will be freed and temple will be built," Eshwarappa added.

The Places of Worship Act, enacted in 1991, says that religious character of a place of worship existing on the August 15, 1947 shall continue to be the same as it existed on that day. The Act kept Ayodhya case out of its purview.

Mysuru, Feb 7: Former chief minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday said that Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa-led government is not stable and it can fall at any moment.

"Karnataka Government is not a stable one. With the developments taking place, it can fall at any moment," Kumaraswamy told reporters when asked to comment on the Karnataka Cabinet expansion.

Earlier in the day, 10 MLAs including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar and BA Basavaraja took oath as Cabinet Ministers at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru.
