City to get India's first 3D planetarium shortly

Mangalore, July 7: Space enthusiasts in the city will soon get a chance to view exo-planets and galaxies situated outside our solar system as State government will set up India's first 3-dimenstion planetarium of 18-metre diameter soon.

This was announced here in a press release by N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Mangalore South MLA. He said it would be modelled on the planetarium in places such as Hong Kong and Macau.

He said the State Cabinet had approved the decision and work would start soon. It would be an added attraction for tourists and students. The planetarium which would be a source of information and entertainment would be named after Swami Vivekananda whose 150th birth anniversary is being celebrated.

He said the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had released Rs. 11 crore for the project and the Cabinet had approved an additional Rs. 13.5 crore for high-end technology. He has thanked Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Information and Technology Principal Secretary M.N. Vidyashankar for the approval granted to the project.

Belthangady, Jun 26: Thieves broke into a house at Kalmanja village in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada during the wee hours on Friday and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 13 lakhs after tying the inmates of an areca merchant's house.

Police said the stolen valuables include 40 sovereigns gold, one kg silver and cash of Rs 25,000. The robbery took place in the house of Achyut Bhat who is an areca merchant in Ujire.

The house inmates opened the door after hearing dogs barking. Immediately the criminals, wearing masks, barged into the house and threatening to kill tied them before escaping with the booty.

Mangaluru, May 12: Two people hailing from Udupi district tested positive for covid-19 today. The sources of this infection is said to be Mangaluru's First Neuro Hospital.

Fresh bulletin from health and family welfare department revealed that a 52-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man from Karkala in Udupi were tested positive for the deadly coronavirus.

Among them, the woman had undergone treatment at the First Neuro Hospital. She is said to have contracted the infection from P-507 who was also was tested positive  April 27. And the youth was in touch with the woman.

The duo have not visited their home in Karkala for past few days. They were in quarantine and tested positive while being admitted at the same hospital.

With this the total number of COVID-19 cases found in Dakshina Kannada district are 33 now. Three among them have died and 14 have been discharged. Now, the district has 16 active coronavirus cases.

Udupi, Jul 8: A 15-year-old boy belonging to Saligrama in Udupi district, who was under home quarantine with his mother, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday.

His throat swabs were sent for testing. The report received today and it showed that he did not have coronavirus.
 
The boy, a class ten student studying in Kota, was quarantined along with his mother at home after a person in a family, where she was working as a maid tested positive for Covid-19.

The boy is suspected to have taken the extreme step out of depression as he was not allowed to go out. The last rites were held today.
