Mangalore, July 8: A beedi branch staff was waylaid by a motorcycle-borne miscreant near Ullal and robbed of Rs. 1.14 lakh, according to a complaint registered at the local police station.
Siddik, a resident of Alekal, was heading to Bharath Beedi branch on an autorickshaw on Saturday with Rs. 2.62 lakh stashed in a suitcase. The amount was meant to be deposited at the branch. When the autorickshaw reached the Islahi school area, an unidentified motorcyclist waylaid the three-wheeler and threw pepper powder on Siddik's face before snatching the suitcase.
In order to confuse any possible chasers, he threw some part of the cash on the road before fleeing. A case has been registered in Ullal police station.
