Mangalore, July 9: The Air India pilots' strike has had an impact on the Indian diaspora living in the UAE with non-operation of flights from Dubai to Mangalore becoming a cause of worry for them.

Owing to the pilots' strike, day flights from Dubai to Mangalore have been stopped temporarily. The Mangalorean populace living in Dubai has expressed concerns with respect to availability of flights to Mangalore for the upcoming Ramadan and Eid holidays. The Dubai-Mumbai-Mangalore route is tiresome and time consuming and hence availability of the direct flight will always be their first priority.

Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Air India officials confirmed that the day flight (IX 383) from Dubai to Mangalore had been stopped for the time being because of the pilots' strike but the night flights will carry on operations as per schedule. The concerned day flight used to operate on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flights would be re-introduced as soon as the strike is called off, Air India officials said.

The strike had resulted in the stoppage of Mangalore-Kuwait Sunday flight as well. However, it will resume services from July 15, the officials said. The schedule for the concerned flight is on the Calicut-Mangalore-Kuwait route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

The number of direct Mangalore-Bahrain direct flights has also come down from 3 to 1. Only one flight in a week will operate on the Mangalore-Bahrain route till at least August end, the officials said. All other flights operating to Gulf from Mangalore whether to Abu Dhabi, Muscat etc will fly as per schedule.

There was a suggestion from the Mangalorean community to reschedule the Bahrain flight to some other day as opposed to Friday owing to inconvenience with respect to Friday prayers. The suggestion has been placed before higher authorities, Air India officials told Coastaldigest.com. However, they also said that it is rather difficult to reschedule the flight as then some other flight in some other sector would have to be deployed on Friday.

Shivamogga, Aug 5: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday hailed the laying of foundation stone (bhoomi pujan) for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and said "Kashi Vishwanath and "Krishna Janmasthan temples have to be liberated".

"It is a good day that the foundation stone for Ram Temple has been laid. A beautiful temple will come up, but there are Kashi Vishwanath and Krishna Janmasthan temples which have to be liberated," Eshwarappa said.

The minister said that there is a "sign of slavery" at Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

"The whole nation is dreaming of Shri Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple. I have visited the two temples.

There is a sign of slavery. Mosques are there at holy places. When I visited the place at Mathura, I witnessed the wall. When we look at the wall, we feel like we are still slaves," he said.

"While visiting Kashi, there is also a structure of slavery. Dream of Hindus is fulfilled in Ayodhya. One day, it will be fulfilled in Mathura and Kashi. Mathura Sri Krishna and Kashi Vishwanath will be freed and temple will be built," Eshwarappa added.

The Places of Worship Act, enacted in 1991, says that religious character of a place of worship existing on the August 15, 1947 shall continue to be the same as it existed on that day. The Act kept Ayodhya case out of its purview.

Bengaluru, Mar 27: India should take a cue from the UK and Italy and allow final year medical students to skip exam and bring them into the hospital system immediately to fight the war against COVID-19, noted cardiac surgeon Devi Prasad Shetty on Friday said.

The Chairman and Founder of the city-based Narayana Health said there should be some reforms in medical education like the UK and Italy.
In the UK, he noted, final year medical students have been told that they don't need to appear for the exam, and they will be given pass based on the past performance and they can get into the hospital system to fill the shortage.

Italy got 10,000 more doctors following the move to cut short the duration of MBBS by nine months, according to him.

COVID-19 battle can be only won by young doctors and young nurses. Its like a war, Shetty told PTI.

He said: Senior doctorsnone of them will be able to touch the patients because they are past the age of 50. A person who is past the age of 50 is very vulnerable himself.

This is a very contagious disease. "But we dont have that many battalion (of doctors). We need one and half lakh doctors to manage all these government
hospitals and private hospitals (to fight COVID-19)", he added.
