Six kg gold seized at Mangalore International Airport, Bhatkal man arrested

Mangalore, Feb 16: A Bhatkal based youth made a futile attempt to smuggle 6 kg of gold ornaments at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized the gold worth over Rs 1.5 crore from Abdul Haq when he arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai.

Based on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the accused thoroughly. Sources said he was hiding the gold ornaments inside chocolate boxes.

He was immediately arrested. Investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Mar 26: The number of COVI D-19 cases in Karnataka spiked to 55 on Thursday after four new cases were reported. 

According to official sources, a 35-year-old man, who was a resident of Nanjanagud town in Mysuru taluk and worked in a pharma unit, tested positive for coronavirus. 

He had been quarantined in his home and efforts are being made to track down as many as seven persons, who had primary contact with 
him.

Mangaluru, Apr 12: A 70-year-old woman who tested positive for COVID-19 got discharged from a hospital here on Sunday after she recovered from the novel coronavirus, said Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, Sindu B Rupesh.

Seven other patients have also recovered and discharged in Dakshina Kannada till date. Total number of active cases in the district has decreased to 5 now.

As many as 232 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in Karnataka till date.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India on Sunday climbed to 8447, including 764 cured and discharged, 1 migrated and 273 deaths, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Agricultural produce vendors have decided to hold an indefinite strike from Monday here in city's Central Market.
 
This move comes in response to district administration’s order asking them to shift to the APMC yard at Baikampady and not heeding to their appeal to allow them to operate from the Market and other areas in the city.
 
The district administration has decided to shift the vendors in order to prevent crowding in the market and maintain social distancing norms.
