Mangalore, Apr 21: Rubbishing the allegations lodged against the Brahmins of having introduced untouchability, Pejawar Mutt Seer Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji said that the practice existed way before the Brahmins came into picture and hence it was not a contribution of the Brahminical classes.

Speaking at 'Brahmana Jagrathi Sammelana' programme organized by the Brahmana Federation, Mangalore, at 'Sanghaniketana' in the city on Sunday the seer claimed that he has evidence to justify that the practice existed in the society in South India even before Brahmins came into the picture.

“Some so called intellectuals are attributing all evils in the society to Brahmins. Untouchability is not a contribution of Brahmins. I can prove that caste system existed in South India much before,” he asserted terming the present reservation system as a 'challenge'. “It is unfortunate that talented Brahmins are losing out on opportunities because of reservation,” he said.

'We are one'

Stating that although Brahmins are divided into several groups in coastal districts such as Shivalli, Havyaka, Kota, Sthanika, Koteshwara, Chitpavan, Deshastha and so on, he maintained that Brahmins are all one.

“We are all the sons of 'Vedamaathe'. The different philosophies like the Dwaitha, Advaitha, Vishistadvaitha are like branches of a tree. The Vedic Dharma is the root and we all need to water the roots, not the branches. Fingers come together and form a fist. A fist can either be used to knock someone down or hold something firmly. Brahmins do not knock others or hurt others. We all must come together like a fist to hold on to our culture firmly,” the Swamiji advised.

It is the responsibility of Brahmins to work for the betterment of the 'Hindu Samaj' and humanity as a whole, the Swamiji said. “It is Brahmins who need to stand up for Hindus and provide guidance to all, including Dalits. It is their responsibility”, he said.

Dr. P Sadananda Mayya, Propreitor, Mayya's Beverages and Foods Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, presided over the programme.

Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, Pejawar Mutt, Jitakamananda Swamiji, Ramakrishna Mutt, Mangalore, were also present.

Mangaluru, Mar 21: Taking strict measures to contain the spreading of COVID-19, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, who is also District Magistrate, ordered sealing of road connectivity leading to Kerala State for all kinds of traffic from March 21 to midnight of March 31.

No vehicles will be allowed to operate between Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod district in Kerala, the Deputy Commissioner said in a late-night order on Friday.

Ms. Rupesh said that in case of any emergency, vehicles will be allowed only through the Talapady check post on the National Highway 66, which is about 17 km away from Mangaluru city.

The Deputy Commissioner’s order came after the Kasaragod district reported six COVID-19 positive cases on Friday.

The order said that many vehicles operated between Kasaragod in Kerala and Mangaluru and hence, there is a need to take precautionary measures.

Private buses to not ply

Private bus operators in Dakshina Kannada will not operate their buses on March 22 to support the ‘Janata Curfew’ called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dilraj Alva, president, Dakshina Kananda Bus Operators’ Association, said in a release on Friday that people should remain in their homes on Sunday to help contain the community spreading of COVID-19. The decision has been taken in the interest of the public, he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: After the visit of fact finding committee members to the spot, the Christian community here decided to submit a report to the state government urging to install a 114-ft. statue of Jesus Christ at Kapala Betta in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagaram district, Congress MLC Ivan D’souza said here on Thursday.

While talking to media, Mr D’souza said the committee would submit the report to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Revenue Minster R. Ashok and urge the government to construct the statue at the earliest.

The RSS and other BJP outfits have strongly opposed the installation, following which the government ordered suspension of the work. A few days ago, Kalladka Prabhakar, RSS ideologue, took out a rally in Kanakapura opposing the installation.

Mysuru, May 15: The Temple Town of Nanjangud was till now treated as one unit or a Cluster Containment Zone and was put under complete lock-down as per the containment protocol listed under COVID-19 regulations and Disaster Management Act, 2005.

However on Friday, some of the restrictions have been lifted by Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar who permitted certain activities as no fresh positive cases were reported from the cluster area. The Cluster Containment Zone was declared on March 29 following one employee of Nanjangud-based Jubilant Generics tested positive for the killer Coronavirus. As there were chances of the positive person spreading the disease to other employees of the factory, the cluster rules were enforced. Moreover, there were over 1,000 employees in the Pharma Company and a majority of them lived in and around Nanjangud.

The declaration of Cluster Containment Zone with complete lock-down and quarantining of all the Pharma Company employees proved a success to the District Administration as whoever tested positive – over 73 were later tested positive — had already been quarantined and the dangerous community spread phase was successfully prevented. To a major extent, the Corona virus curve has been flattened. As such, restrictions have been relaxed a bit on Friday.
