Bajrang Dal raid prevents cattle trafficking; police resort to lathi-charge

Bantwal, Jul 5: A tense atmosphere prevailed at Peruvai in Bantwal taluk, after a group of miscreants belonging to Bajrang Dal way laid a vehicle transporting cattle on Friday.

The incident led to clashes between two groups. Police resorted to lathi-charge to bring the situation under control.

The incident took place when a Maruti Omni carrying cattle from Ninthikallu, Yennur in Sullia was heading towards Kerala via Kaddupadavu, Pervuvai.

Naveen (20), a resident of Yennur was, who was inside the Omni was caught by Bajrang Dal activists and handed over to the police.

Two calves and a bull which were illegally being transported to Kerala were seized by Vittal police.

It is learnt that Chetan, a Bajrang Dal activist noticed a car with calves inside and informed local leaders of the saffron outfit.

Based on this information a group of Bajrang Dal activists including Ramesh, Bhaskar, Mokshith, Yathish, Rakesh, Vishwanath, Balakrishna Shetty and Nayankumar waylaid the Omni at Peruvai.

The driver of the Omni fled the scene. Naveen, who was caught by the Bajrang Dal activists said that he had been asked by one Shamsuddin, who was driving the car to accompany him.

Bengaluru, May 15: The novel coronavirus infection tally in Karnataka state on Friday crossed the 1,000-mark with 45 new positive cases.

The tally has risen to 1032 with 35 deaths.

At present, there are 520 active cases, while 476 have been discharged following recovery

A maximum of 16 new cases are from Dakshina Kannada, followed by 13 in Bengaluru Urban.

Five cases are from Udupi, three each from Hassan and Bidar, two from Chitradurga and one each from Bagalakote, Shivamoga and Kolara, respectively.

A three-year-old is among the six minor infected by the virus.

Among the new cases, nearly 20 have a travel history to Dubai, four to Mumbai, and three to Chennai.

The rest of the patients are contacts in the Containment zone and those who tested positive earlier.

Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar said that there is no community transmission as yet.

New cases reported: 45

Total covid deaths: 35

Death of covid +ve patient due to Non-Covid cause: 1

Bengaluru, Jan 19: Two college students have been arrested for allegedly spiking their female friend's drink and sexually assaulting her in Bengaluru.

The 19-year-old victim filed a complaint against the two accused, following which they were nabbed. In her complaint, the victim said that the two friends persuaded her to accompany them in a party where one of them allegedly spiked her drink.

Feeling unwell, she wanted to return to her PG, but the two managed to convince her to stay back at their place, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her.

"After some time one of my friends gave me something to drink and I vomited. I felt uneasy and decided to return to my PG. However, he forced me to go to his house stating that I was not in a condition to go to my PG. He convinced me saying that I can go home in the morning. I did not suspect any foul-play as he was a friend," the victim was quoted as saying by the publication.

Udupi, Mar 24: Four people, including two women, suspected to have infected with Coron were admitted to the hospitals in Udupi district

According to the District Administration, in all, 51 samples were sent to the laboratory for test and 40 samples have been tested negative.

The result of remaining 11 swabs were awaited.

At least 21 people had been admitted to the isolation wards of hospitals in the district. Nine had been discharged from the isolation wards after they recovered from the health complications on Monday, it further said.
