Applications invited from girls for marriage

Mangalore, Sep 26: City-based Al Wafa Charitable Trust has come forward to conduct individual marriage ceremonies of select couples at the local mosque or their residence, in order to help girls of marriageable age who are orphaned or hail from poor families.

The marriage ceremonies for each couple will take place individually in the presence of the organisers, said a press release.

According to the release, the Trust will provide a sum of Rs 1,50,000 for each couple as marriage expenses inclusive of gold jewellery, dresses and other materials necessary for the ceremony. The marriage ceremony will be performed between November 15 and January 31, 2014 as per the convenience of the selected applicants.

Eligible aspirants living in Dakshina Kannada district are requested to submit applications before October 30 along with their necessary details.

Bengaluru, Apr 13: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa today held a review meeting with his cabinet colleagues and senior officials regarding prevailing coronavirus situation and several other important issues in the state.

Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar was also present at the meeting. The possible situation once the COVID-19 lockdown is lifted was discussed along with the financial status of the state government and how to mobilise additional resources, sources said.

The Chief Minister also appealed to sugar factory owners to clear the pending payment to the tune of Rs 2834 crore to farmers in 11 districts. He also said that the government has released Rs 45 crore compensation to farmers for loss of paddy crop in Raichur and Koppal District due to hailstorm based on a report submitted by District Collectors.

Amid the lockdown distribution of free milk to the poor will also be continued for one more week, sources added.

The meeting also decided to speed up disposal of cases related to the regularisation of unauthorised constructions which are pending before the High Court and Supreme Court.

In addition to this, the government is planning to auction more than 12,000 corner sites lying idle in Bengaluru. An amendment to the law governing permission to allow sites in private and co-operative housing societies will be made. Hundreds of societies are waiting for approval from the government for releasing the sites, sources said.

It was also decided to utilise Rs 1,000 crore available at Rajiv Gandhi Health University to upgrade medical college hospitals.

Mangaluru, May 4: The district administration has set up seven check-posts to monitor those entering Dakshina Kannada from other districts and states amidst coronavirus crisis.

The check-posts are located at up seven check-posts at Talapady, Hejamady, Gundya, Jalsoor, Charmadi, Naravi and Kallugundi. 

According to Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, all those who enter the district will be screened. Those who come from outside the district and state will be asked to remain in quarantine. 

As the relaxation is announced for 12 hours, the public should be cautious while venturing out of the house. Wearing a mask in public is mandatory in addition to maintaining social distance. 

Further, she said of the 24 cases reported in the district, only four had symptoms of breathlessness and others were asymptomatic. Of the nine active cases in the district, the condition of one patient is serious while two are likely to be discharged from hospital shortly, said the DC.

Mangaluru, Jun 9: Two days after he went missing under mysterious circumstances, a 33-year-old man was today found dead on the banks of Netravati river at Ullal Hoige on the outskirts of the city.

The deceased has been identified as Chethan Acharya. A missing case was registered on Tuesday morning at Ullal police station.

It is suspected that Chetan might have committed suicide due to depression. 

The missing case was later converted into the case of unnatural death. Investigations are on.
