Mangalore: E Ahmed visits Survivors

Mangalore, May 23: E Ahmed, Union Minister of State for Railways, along with a delegation from Kerala, visited the survivors of the Bajpe air crash at three different hospitals in the city and assured them that the Government of India will not ignore them on Sunday, May 23.

“We are all with you. We all share the sorrows and pains you have experienced equally”, he told Krishna, one of the survivors who is being treated at SCS Hospital.

He assured all the victims that the Government will bear the medical expenses of all the survivors.

He also visited KMC and AJ hospitals to express his condolence and to express solidarity with the victims and survivors. Victims expressed their experience and feelings during and after the crash to the minister.

E Ahmed, who arrived in the Mangalore Railway Station at 8:50 am, directly went to the Wenlock Hospital where dead bodies of the victims of the tragic plane crash that took place at Bajpe Airport on Saturday are kept for identification.

Speaking to media persons E Ahmed reiterated that it is too early to come to any conclusion regarding the cause that led to the crash.

He said that the transportation procedure of dead bodies of the Keralites to their homes will be accomplished smoothly and both the State Governments will be taking responsibility in this regard.

“Entire Kerala is observing mourning as many of the victims belong to the coastal state. And at such a critical juncture everyone should work together”, he said.

Answering a query, he explained that the compensation declared by the Prime Minister in the aftermath of crash is only a preliminary step.

Mangalore, Jan 12: Thieves reportedly stole around 70,000 cash from a MESCOM ATP machine located at Chembugudde in Thokkottu, Police said here on Sunday.

Police said that the theft took place in the MESCOM sub-division office at Chembugudde. It was said that the thieves broke open the room where the MESCOM customers bill payment machine was located and stole 70,000 rupees cash from the ATP machine.

This machine had nine lakh rupees cash. The amount was reported to have been transferred at around 1500 hrs on Saturday.

Bengaluru, May 22: Evacuation planes from Male in Maldives and Doha in Qatar landed in Bengaluru with returnees from Karnataka after they were stranded for two months due to suspension of international flights since March 23 and the extended lockdown, an official said on Friday.
 
"An Air-India flight (#0266) with 152 passengers from Male and its subsidiary Express flight (IX-0822) with 177 returnees and 5 infants from Doha landed here safely at 6.50 pm. and 9.05 pm respectively," an airline official told media persons in Bengaluru.
 
Both the flights are first from their respective countries to Bengaluru, bringing in returnees to the southern state in the second phase of the Vande Bharat mission, being carried out to evacuate Indians stranded the world over.
 
"As per the standard operating procedure and guidelines of the state health department, all the passengers were screened with thermal device and tested to ensure they were asymptomatic before leaving the airport," a nodal officer said.
 
The returnees were given a spare mask to wear all the time and a sanitiser to wash their hands.
 
"The luggage of all passengers was screened and disinfected before handing over to them after they completed formalities such as filling the self-declaration form and downloading of the Quarantine App for contact tracing later,” said the official.
 
The passengers were ferried from the airport in state-run buses in batches for 14-day institutional quarantine in hotels and resorts across the city.
 
The flights were the 6th and 7th flights to Karnataka, of the national carrier and its Express arm, which are operating the service to repatriate thousands of Indians, including distressed workers, migrants, students, senior citizens and tourists, stranded overseas.
 
Five flights have flown about 650 returnees till date from May 18-21 under the mission's second phase to Bengaluru and Mangaluru on the west coast. The passengers have been brought from Dubai in the UAE, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Muscat in Oman, Dammam in Saudi Arabia and San Francisco in the US.
 
The remaining flights to Karnataka will land in Bengaluru and Mangaluru over the next 12 days till June 3 from 9-10 more destinations the world over.
 
In the first phase of the mission from May 7-17, the airline and its arm flew 6 flights to the state from May 11-15, bringing in 800 passengers, including 623 to Bengaluru and 177 to Mangaluru from London, Singapore, San Francisco and Dubai.

Mangaluru, May 25: Four domestic flights that were scheduled to operate from Mangaluru International Airport today have been cancelled. 

A total of six flights were scheduled to depart Mangaluru Airport today. 

Among them, two flights to Mumbai, one to Chennai and one to Bengaluru were cancelled due to lack of passengers and other reasons, sources said.

The remaining two flights – both to Bengaluru – are expected to take off with limited passengers later in the day.  

Domestic flight operations resumed in the country today after a gap of two months. All flight operations had ceased when the nationwide lockdown was imposed in March.
