The Man who was busy at the Mortuary expecting nothing from anyone

Mangalore, May 24: He has been restless in his efforts in the mortuary of Wenlock Hospital in the city since the first dead body arrived there after Saturday's aviation tragedy in Bajpe airport. He didn't know who deceased were and to which religion or place they belonged to. But he was leading works of shifting the charred dead bodies from the ambulance to mortuary and from mortuary to other vehicles as though he was appointed by the Government to carry out that job.


He was also supplying drinking water for the families of the victims.


Abdul Hameed Ali, a 60 year old stalwart and a father of six children assisted in shifting of more than 60 bodies in two days. When he heard the news of a flight accident he rushed to Mangalore from his hometown Manjeshwar and began his work without any expectations from anyone.


“All our children are well settled. So, I don't have any problem to dedicate myself to this”, Abdul Hameed said.


“I can't rest inside home when people are screaming outside”, he added.

Mangaluru, Feb 18: Customs at International Airport here have seized Rs 58.95 lakh worth gold in two incidents and arrested two smugglers, Customs Commissionerate said on Monday.

According to the department, two men have been arrested by the customs officials in two separate incidents last evening for attempting to smuggle gold into the country valuing over Rs. 58.95 Lakhs.

In the first incident, Muhammed Swalih Chappathodi, 22, hailing from Malappuram, Kerala who arrived from Dubai by Spice jet flight concealed capsules containing gold in paste form inside his rectum which upon purification resulted in the recovery of 797 gm of 24 karats valued at Rs.32,35,820.

Bengaluru, Apr 18: The Indian Council of Medical Research has approved 16 laboratories, comprising 11 government and five private laboratories in Karnataka, for testing the samples of COVID-19 suspected cases, the state government said on Saturday.

Meetings and negotiations were held with some private laboratories for conducting COVID-19 sample testing, additional chief secretary (health and family welfare) Jawaid Akhtar said in a circular.

"Based on the negotiations, the cost per test has been fixed at Rs 2,250," the circular read.

These private labs have to abide by the conditions laid down by the state and union governments, it added.

Bengaluru, May 22: Karnataka Congress delegation met Chief Election Commissioner, Dr B Basavaraju in Bengaluru, urging him to guide Karnataka Government to conduct local body elections and not to allow State government to nominate their party men to the local bodies.

The delegation was led by Congress leader Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar.

"They (State government) wants to postpone the election, they have a lot of other provisions. We are demanding to protect the law, the government doesn't have the power to interfere in the system. We will not allow the state government to nominate their party men.

The CM and his entire team is responsible for this, they are killing the democracy and Panchayati Raj system of the State," said Shivakumar while speaking to the reporters.

The local body elections were scheduled to take place in the month of March or April, which were postponed in view of the COVID-19 crisis.

However, the date for conducting the local body elections has not been decided yet.
