Mangaloreans mourn death of Crash Victims

Mangalore, May 25: Saddened citizens of the city, especially youth and children on Monday, May 24, held a candlelight vigil and offered special prayers at Balmatta in Mangalore for the victims of country's one of the worst aviation tragedies that occurred last Saturday at the Bajpe Airport.

They paid homage to the victims through lightening the candles and observing a silent mourning.

The candlelight vigil was organised by Dr. UT Ifthiqar. Fr. Ravi Santhosh Kamath of Shanti Nilaya Church prayed for the solace of victims.

Speaking on the Occasion, B Janardana Poojari, Congress leader, said that May 22, 2010 was one of the darkest days in the history of the country.

“This is an unforgettable tragedy occurred in the city. I have never seen such a tragedy in my lifetime”, he said.

Poojari also said that entire population of the district stood as one unit in expressing their sorrows and grief.

Bengaluru, Apr 29: As many as 11 more people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours in Karnataka, said the State's Health Department on Wednesday.

According to an official statement, 11 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from 5 pm on April 28 to 5 pm on April 29.

"With this, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in the state has mounted to 534, of which 20 deaths have been reported and 215 people have recovered," added the statement.

Of 20 coronavirus patients who died, one death was due to the non-COVID cause, the statement further said.

Bhatkal, Mar 30: Uttara Kannada district administration has decided to shift all those Bhatkal residents who have returned from abroad after March 15 to quarantine facilities in Bhatkal town to avoid further family contacts, Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada K Harish Kumar said on Monday.

“All primary contacts identified are already in government quarantine facilities,” he said in a communique.

All people must cooperate to maintain social distancing to avoid further spread of COVID-19, he added.

Mangaluru, May 4: District Health Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi on Monday said that a special team, comprising of six members, has been constituted to find the source of Corona infection in Dakshina Kannada .

The team is expected to file its report by May 6. It is still not clear if Bantwal was the source was the infection or not.

He said 1st phase of investigation in this regard is complete and the samples taken on the 12th day will give a clear picture.
