He was the first to inform the Police

“I had just finished my Namaz and was coming out of mosque. Whenever I would hear the sound of an aircraft flying, I would look up at the sky. This time, the sound was different; not the usual one. The weather was cloudy. A flight made a noise may be because it hit the tower before it fell in the ravine” says Mohammad Sameer, one of the first to witness the tragic air crash and the first to inform about it to the police.

Soon after it fell down it thrice did it make a noise and started to burn. I realized we cannot do much as it did seem to be a big incident. I immediately dialed 100, to the police control room who in return took my number and address and said we will call you back soon. Cops from Bajpe police station called me and asked for details including the exact spot and the road to reach the spot. Within minutes the Police Commissioner called and requested me to go with friends to render help at the spot and said we will be there soon.

We were around 6 people. We ran to the spot through the shortest route possible and other people who heard the blast were also coming there. As we reached there, we saw a lady stuck on two trees. She couldn't move, four of us lifted her and sent her to the hospital. She is the one of 8 survivors Sabrina Haq, student of Manipal.

Soon I heard a voice of a kid calling for help saying 'uncle, uncle' from the crack side. On the other side two of the passengers were trying to jump down. Although the plane was grounded it was still high for them to jump. Soon my friend went to help the kid. As he was nearing there was the final blast. With that, the screaming of people was reduced to mere muteness. I won't be able to forget that sight for the rest of my life, he grieved.

The fire services tried to put off the fire from the end of the runway started blowing water to extinguish the fire, but the force wasn't enough and couldn't reach the spot. They stopped it and came round to the spot which took time and by the time they arrived what was left was just burning bodies. Along with them, an ambulance and police also reached the spot.

We helped the fire service with the pipes and later we lent our hands in retrieving the bodies and passing them to the ambulance. It was steep and slippery, so we made a human chain to bring the bodies up on stretchers. We got tired and the scenes put us off further. As more people started coming in, we stepped aside and they took over. But we didn't leave the spot.

There are many more who have worked more than us, but their work has gone unnoticed.

Beijing, Feb 21: A 29-year-old Chinese doctor, who postponed his wedding to treat patients infected with the deadly coronavirus, has died treating them after being infected by the virus, the ninth fatality among the healthcare providers working to contain the outbreak.

Dr Peng Yinhua, doctor of a Wuhan hospital who treated patients infected with the coronavirus, died on Thursday night, according to the health bureau.

Peng, a respiratory acute care medical professional, became infected while working to combat the novel coronavirus at the First People's Hospital of Jiangxia District of Wuhan. He was hospitalised on January 25 and transferred to the Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital for treatment on January 30.

"Peng Yinhua, a frontline doctor at Jiangxia First Hospital in virus epicenter #Wuhan, died of #COVID19 on Thursday night. He had earlier delayed his wedding as he wanted to treat patients with the disease at hospital," state-run Global Times tweeted on Friday.

He died from the virus despite doctors' all-out efforts to save his life.

Chinese health authorities have asked health agencies to apply for the honour of martyr for deceased medical staff to the veteran's affairs authorities, comfort the families of the deceased and help solve their difficulties, as well as publicise stories of those who sacrificed their lives during the epidemic, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Li Wenliang, the 34-year-old Chinese doctor, who was one of the first people to sound the alarm about the new outbreak died on February 7.

Li sent a message to his medical-school alumni group on December 30, warning that seven patients had been quarantined at Wuhan Central Hospital after coming down with a respiratory illness that seemed like the SARS coronavirus. But Wuhan police reprimanded and silenced Li.

Earlier, Dr Liu Zhiming, head of the Wuchang Hospital died due to the virus. On the same day Liu Fan, senior nurse of the hospital, died along with her parents and brother due to the virus.

China’s National Health Commission earlier said that a total of 1,716 medical workers had contracted the infection as of February 11.

Peng's death takes the death toll among the medical staff to nine.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Former Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara has said the Karnataka Congress has unanimously decided to appeal to the party high command regarding the appointment of KPCC President and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in the state.

Speaking to reporters, the Congress leader said, "We have decided to gather the opinion of senior leaders regarding the selection of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and opposition leaders. We will appeal to the high command regarding the same. The party will decide its next course of action."

He made these remarks after a meeting of senior party leaders was held at Parameshwara's residence here on Saturday.

Adding that the Congress leaders discussed the current political scenario in the state, Parameshwara said: "We held a meeting to reiterate that we are not confused and we all are together."

"There has been no personal discussion on who should be the president," he said.

Earlier, KPCC president Dinesh Gundu Rao and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had tendered resignation from their respective posts owning moral responsibility for the party's poor performance in the recent by-polls.

Bengaluru, Jul 31: Gyms in Bengaluru carried out sanitation work on Thursday following the Centre's nod to reopen gyms from August 5, after several weeks of COVID-induced lockdowns.

"We are taking all the precautionary measures prescribed by the government and will follow the guidelines very strictly. A thermal scanner, oximeter and hand sanitizers have been placed at the entrance of the gym. 

We request all other gym owners also to follow the guidelines strictly to keep their members safe and healthy," said Prasad Kumar, a gym owner in Bangalore.

He added, "The last few months have been very difficult for us gym owners and fitness instructors. We are very grateful to the government for allowing us to re-open. 

We are going to be very cautious when we open. Even before this COVID-19 pandemic, we used to sanitise all the equipment before and after every use so hopefully, this won't be too difficult for us. We are getting rid of the air conditioners to allow cross ventilation and open the space a little more."

According to Chandu Gowda, an actor and frequenter of the gym, working out at home was not the same as working out in the gym with the proper equipment.

"I'm very glad that I get to come back and work out as I used to before this lockdown. For an actor, working out is extremely important, not just for my physical health but also mental health. 

Doing exercises at home is never as good as exercising in a space dedicated to one purpose. I hope other members of the gym follow the rules and regulations religiously," Gowda said.
