Speaking to the media persons at a press conference, Sunil Kishan, the Executive Director of Air India, Southern Region said that a major part of interim relief distribution has been accomplished and only the final round of distribution to a few families is remaining, which may take a little more time due to the lack of documentation and other proceedings.
He also confirmed that nearly 3 crores of additional relief from the Prime Minister's relief has also been distributed to 147 families so far.
The Government had announced a payment of Rs. 2 lakhs for the family of a deceased and Rs. 50,000/- for a survivor from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund. Kishan assured that the remaining amount will also be paid to the remaining families in the days to come.
Air India's team of senior officials had earlier visited Mangalore on May 28 and 29 and June 3 and 4 to assist the survivors and the relatives of the victims in their claim for compensation.
The team, accompanied by the solicitor officials of M/s Mulla and Mulla, have already met the survivors and relatives of the deceased in batches to provide clarifications regarding compensation, procedures, documentation etc, he informed.
The airline will continue to extend full assistance and support to all survivors, relatives of the crash victims, relatives of the crew members in all activities post crash including hospitalization and care of the survivors, counseling for trauma, interim compensation and disbursal of personal effects etc, he assured.
He also said that Air India is planning to build a memorial in the city for the victims of the crash. However he said that the main priority of Air India is the distribution of relief funds, which can only console the grieving families to some extent.
