Gujarat Police most tech-savvy in India: Narendra Modi

Vadodara, June 13: The Gujarat government has recruited 26,000 persons into the police force in various cadres and also provided over 2.5 lakh jobs in the last seven years.

In all, three lakh people were employed in different Government jobs since 2005 and the entire recruitment process was "transparent", Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday.

"Earlier, there used to be a lot of complaints about police recruitment, but things have changed now. These 26,000 persons, including those from poor families, were recruited in a transparent manner," he said in Vadodara.

Modi was speaking at the passing-out parade of Lok Rakshak Police personnel at the Police Training School in Vadodara.

"Gujarat Police is the most educated and tech-savvy force in the country today. It is mandatory to learn computer for every one joining the police force," the CM added.

Training modules are being overhauled for all cadres at the police training institutes in the state to make the force more professional, Modi maintained.

Modi took salute at the parade of 419 trainees, including women. Of these trainees, 41 are post-graduates while 169 are graduates.

He said a large number of women are joining the police force which is a welcome development.

On the occasion, Modi presented President's police medals to 30 personnel, including DGP Chitranjan Singh.

After Tuesday's induction, a total of 892 Lok Rakshak jawans have joined Gujarat Police in the last two days.

New Delhi, Aug 7: India's COVID-19 cases tally crossed 20 lakh mark with the highest single-day spike of 62,538 cases on Friday, said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The COVID-19 tally rises to 20,27,075 including 6,07,384 active cases, 13,78,106 cured/discharged/migrated and 41,585 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

Maharashtra with 1,46,268 active cases and 3,05,521 cured and discharged patients continues to be the worst affected. The state has also reported 16,476 deaths due to the infection.

Tamil Nadu has 54,184 active cases while 2,14,815 patients have been discharged after treatment in the state. 4,461 deaths have been reported due to COVID-19 in the state.

Andhra Pradesh with 80,426 active cases is the third on the list. There are 1,04,354 cured and discharged patients and 1,681 deaths reported from the state.

Delhi now has 10,072 active cases and 1,26,116 cured and discharged patients. 4,044 people have lost their lives due to the disease in the Union Territory so far.

New Delhi, Feb 28: The months of March, April and May are "likely to be warmer than normal" over northwest, west, central and parts of south India, the India Meteorological Department said today in its summer forecast.

Above normal heat wave conditions are also likely in the core heat wave (HW) zone during the season (March-May), the weather department said.

The core heat wave zone covers the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana and parts of Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

New Delhi, Apr 23: With an increase of 1,229 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases reached 21,700, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

The tally is inclusive of 16,689 active cases, 4,325 patients have been cured/discharged and migrated, while 686 patients who have died due to the deadly virus.

According to the ministry's data, Maharashtra is on the top of the list with most COVID-19 cases, 5,652 cases of which 789 patients have recovered and 269 patients succumbing to coronavirus.

Gujarat and Delhi are second and third on the list respectively with Gujarat having 2407 cases of which 179 patients have recovered and 103 deaths. Meanwhile, in Delhi, the tally stands at 2248 cases of which 724 patients have recovered and 49 patients have died from COVID-19.

Rajasthan's tally stands at 1,890 cases with 230 patients cured while 27 deaths have been reported as of Thursday.

Madhya Pradesh has 1695 cases of which 148 patients have recovered and 81 deaths reported. Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, stands with 1629 cases of which 662 patients have recovered and 18 have died due to the deadly virus.

Goa has seven cases reported of which all seven patients have recovered from the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on April 14, that the nationwide lockdown would be extended to May 3.
