YSR Cong set to win 15 seats

Hyderabad, June 15: Jaganmohan Reddy’s YSR Congress Party is all set to sweep the crucial AP by-polls, held in one Lok Sabha and 18 assembly constituencies.

Counting of votes began at 8 am on Friday. As per trends available at 10.15 am, out of the 18 assembly seats, YSR Congress is ahead in 15, the ruling Congress is expected to win only one seat. TRS and TDP are also ahead in one seat each.

YSR Congress is also maintaining a healthy lead in Nellore Lok Sabha poll.

The by-polls were dubbed as a litmus test for YSR Congress party and its chief Jaganmohan Reddy, who is currently lodged in jail in the disproportionate assets case.

And now with YSR Congress set to sweep the polls, the Congress led by Kiran Kumar Reddy would find itself marginalised further.

Moreover, the results may lead to a further consolidation in favour of Jagan, who has been successful in creating an image of being a victim very effectively.

In fact the 79.69 percent polling in the by-elections can now be construed as a result of a sympathy vote in Jagan’s favour.

While the minimum number of counting rounds was 12, the maximum would be 19 going by the number of voters in the respective segments.

Of the 18 Assembly seats, 16 were won by Congress in 2009 and two by erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party. Nellore Lok Sabha seat was also bagged by the Congress.

New Delhi, Feb 11: People of Delhi have explained the true meaning of nationalism through their mandate, AAP's prominent face Manish Sisodia said as he clinched victory on the Patparganj seat.

Sisodia, who retained his seat for the third time, said the BJP indulged in "politics of hate", but people refused to be divided.

"I am happy to have won the Patparganj seat again. The BJP indulged in politics of hate, but I thank the people of Patparganj. Today, Delhi's people have chosen a government which works for them and explained the true meaning of nationalism through their mandate," he told reporters.

Sisodia, who was the Deputy Chief Minister and led the government's education reforms agenda, defeated BJP's Ravinder Singh Negi by a margin of over 3,500 votes.

The initial trends saw a seesaw battle between Sisodia and Negi.

In 2013, Sisodia had won by a margin of 11,000 votes and in 2015 by over 28,000 votes.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 31: Kerala reported its second COVID-19 death after a 68-year-old man being treated for the virus, died at the Government Medical College Hospital here in the early hours on Tuesday.

The victim, Abdul Aziz, a retired ASI hailing from Pothencode here, was admitted to the isolation ward on March 23 with the symptoms of the Corona infection. He was also suffering from lung and kidney diseases.

Though his first test result for COVID-19 turned negative, the second test result confirmed positive, official sources said.

However, it was not known from where he caught the virus infection. leaving chances for a secondary contract of a COVID-19 patient.

His funeral will take place as per the protocol, the sources added.

New Delhi, Jul 26: India reported a spike of 48,661 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday.

The total COVID-19 positive cases stand at 13,85,522, including 4,67,882 active cases, 8,85,577 cured/discharged/migrated, it added.
With 705 deaths in the last 24 hours, the cumulative toll reached 32,063.

Maharashtra has reported 3,66,368 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.

A total of 2,06,737 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,29,531 coronavirus cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 4,42,263 samples were tested for coronavirus on Saturday and overall 1,62,91,331 samples have been tested so far.
