Kolkata, July 11: Alliance partners Congress and Trinamool Congress on Tuesday continued to spar over Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's sharp indictment of the continuing political clashes in West Bengal.

While state Congress chief Pradip Bhattacharya endorsed Chidamabaram's critical comments and challenged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to prove the veracity of the counter data presented by her, Trinamool ministers asked whether the state Congress ministers also shared the same view and stood united over the charge.

Congress and the Trinamool Congress are partners in both the central and West Bengal governments.

"The condition of law and order in West Bengal is now the best in the entire country. There should not be any doubt about it. And the state Congress should first make sure that their ministers in the state cabinet also share the same view and are united," said Trinamool leader and Sports Minister MadanMitra.

Bhattacharya questioned the data given by the chief minister.

"Lots of things have been said about Home Minister P Chidambaram's statement regarding law and order. Mamata Banerjee has written a letter stating that Chidambaram's statement was wrong," he said.

"She and her cabinet colleagues have given some data. But what is the guarantee that the data they have given is right and the data given by the union home minister is wrong?" Bhattacharya said.

In a virtual snub to the state government, Chidambaram last week noted that inter-party clashes were continuing in West Bengal, adding that a"bullet for bullet" scenario had no place in a democracy.

An infuriated Banerjee challenged Chidambaram the next day by shooting off an angry letter that described as "incorrect" the figures provided by the home minister on the number of deaths in inter-party clashes in the state.

Bhattacharya questioned the figures.

"I challenge the state government and Mamata Banerjee to prove that the figures presented by her regarding inter-party clashes are right. The people of this state have the democratic right to know the truth. If she can prove that the figures presented by us and Chidambaram are wrong, then we will accept our mistake," Bhattacharya said.

He also said that the state government was trying to deceive the people by presenting wrong data regarding violence in the state.

"Crime against women and violence in educational institutes have gone up to a large extent. And the state government is saying that crime graph has gone down," he said.

Agra, Feb 25: The architectural grandeur of 17th century Taj Mahal and the story of its construction by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan left US President Donald Trump "impressed" during his visit to the famed mausoleum, according to the guide who accompanied him.

Nitin Kumar, an Agra-based guide, said the first word the president said after laying his eyes on the marble marvel was "incredible".

He and First Lady Melania Trump visited on Monday the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, the second stop on his little less than 36-hour-long trip of India, and marvelled at the Mughal-era mausoleum built as a monument of love.

After Dwight David Eisenhower (1959) and Bill Clinton (2000), he became the third US president to visit the architectural icon.

"I told them the story of the Taj Mahal, the construction, and the story behind it. President Trump got very emotional after knowing the story of Shah Jahan and his wife Mumtaz Mahal. How he was kept under house arrest by his own son Aurangzeb, and buried here at Taj, next to Mumtaz's grave, after his death," Kumar told reporters.

The couple was left speechless on the first sight of the monument, and showed interest when they were told about the history and architecture of the dome, and the design details, Kumar said.

"Melania Trump asked about the mud-pack treatment and was amazed when she got to know the details of the process," he said.

One of the most photographed sites in the world, it is always high on the itinerary of head of states visiting India.

The monument was built over a period of nearly 20 years by Shah Jahan in memory of his wife after her death in 1631.

"The Taj Mahal inspires awe, a timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian Culture!' Thank You, India," the US President and First Lady jointly wrote in the visitors' book before signing it.

According to Mohammed Zafar, who lives close to Taj Mahal complex, Nitin has been conducting guided tours for many years. "He was selected for this VVIP visit," he said.

"Many people were taking selfies with him, after the end of the visit. So, many media persons interacted with him. He has got some instant fame of sorts," Zafar said.

Authorities at Archaeological Survey of India had "advanced the dates" for mud-pack treatment for the graves of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal at Taj Mahal in view of the US President Trump's visit to Taj, a senior official had earlier said.

New Delhi, Jul 10: Nepal has banned all Indian news channels, except DD News, for alleged propaganda against the country.

Reports say that Nepal cable operators have stopped getting signals of Indian news channels.

Nepal government spokesperson Yuvaraj Khatiwada said: "We request all not to disseminate news that infringes sovereignty and self-respect of Nepalis. This includes the media of neighbouring countries. We might seek both political and legal remedies."

Earlier, Nepal has amended its map which show some Indian territory as part of it.

Nepal's parliament on June 13 adopted unanimously the Constitution Amendment Bill, paving the way for accommodating the updated political-administrative map, which includes Indian areas of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura, in its symbol.
