Guwahati, August 11: A judicial inquiry will be held to go into the Bodo-minority violence in lower Assam even as CBI has taken up seven cases related to the clashes that have claimed 77 lives so far.

“We have decided on a judicial inquiry. This will be done at a much larger scale and cover the entire gamut of issues, including lapses by administration and recommendations for preventing such incidents in future,” Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Guwahati on Saturday.

His announcement came a few hours after the state police said CBI will investigate seven cases related to the violence, which started on July 19-20 and have displaced over four lakh people. However, the details of the judicial inquiry were not divulged.

Mr. Gogoi said no fresh incidents have been reported from any place since the past 24 hours.

“We have formed peace committees in the violence hit areas to ensure that confidence return to the people,” he said adding and an all party meeting would be organised soon to coordinate relief and rehabilitation work.

The chief minister said 1.6 lakh people displaced in the conflict have returned to their homes from refugee camps. “We have already closed down 101 camps. Our effort is to send back the rest of the camp inmates back to their respective homes.”

Mr. Gogoi denied allegations by some parties that formation of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) had led to mistrust and enmity among Bodos and non-Bodos in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

“There were more violent clashes and more deaths before BTAD was formed,” he said.

Mr. Gogoi charged opposition AGP and BJP with playing politics and said his government had done its best to prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh. Border patrolling had been intensified, strengthening riverine policing strengthened and floodlights erected on Indo-Bangla border.

Refuting the opposition charge that illegal immigrants were behind the clashes, he shot back saying “If there are any foreigners they (AGP and BJP) should prove it. The statement made by them are false.”

There are no illegal infiltrators in the camps for displaced persons of the ethnic violence, he said.

On the charge made by BJP leader L.K. Advani over inaction in updating National Register of Citizens, the chief minister said “It is my government who initiated measures to update the NRC. When Advaniji was union home minister he never spoke on the issue.”

“They (AGP and BJP) have no interest in deporting foreigners. What did they do when they were in power,” he asked and added no other government (in Assam) had taken as much effort as his to stop infiltration.

Police station-level committees had been constituted for detection and deportation of illegal immigrants. But nobody comes forward to identify foreigners,” he said.

Meanwhile, Assam IGP (Law & Order) L R Bishnoi told PTI that CBI will hear preliminary investigation of seven cases related to the violence. Of them four cases are from Kokrajhar, two from Chirang and one from Dhubri.

The decision to take up the seven cases was decided after a visit to the violence-hit areas by a two-member CBI team comprising the central agency’s Special Director K Saleem Ali and Deputy Inspector General Satish Golcha on Friday.

Ayodhya, Jul 23: All 32 accused in the Babri mosque demolition case should be invited to the "bhumi pujan" ceremony for the construction of the Ram temple here and honoured, a Hindutva outfit leader has said.

Hindu Dharma Sena president Santosh Dubey is one of the main accused in the case.

Dubey also insisted that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust must also invite all the four Shankaracharyas to the ceremony planned on August 5.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend the event.

"The office bearers of Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra must ensure that along with all 32 accused in the Babri mosque demolition case, the families of the kar sevaks who gave their lives in the Ram Temple movement must also be invited to the 'bhumi pujan' ceremony and must be honoured there," Dubey told PTI.

The top court verdict in favour of the Ram temple at the site would not have been possible had the Babri mosque not been demolished, he said.

"If the Trust does not invite the kar sevaks, it will a display of ego and arrogance. Without inviting the kar sevaks who have been accused in Babri mosque demolition and the families of the slain kar sevaks, the 'bhumi pujan' will remain incomplete," Dubey added.

A special CBI court in Lucknow is recording the statements of the 32 Babri demolition accused under section 313 of the CrPC, which enables them to plead their innocence, if they so want.

The court is conducting day-to-day hearings to complete the trial by August 31 as directed by the Supreme Court.

The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site. Former deputy prime minister L K Advani and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi were leading the Ram temple movement at that time.

Lucknow, Jan 21: Defending his brainchild, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Union home minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the new law will not be scrapped despite the countrywide protests against it.

Addressing a rally here to drum up support for the CAA, Shah also declared that construction of a Ram temple "touching the skies" in Ayodhya will begin within three months.

He said there is no provision in the amended law for taking anyone's citizenship away. "A canard is being spread against the CAA by the Congress, SP, BSP, and Trinamool Congress. The CAA is a law to grant citizenship," he added.

"I want to say that irrespective of the protests this will not be withdrawn," he added.

Shah challenged Congress leaders to hold a discussion with him on CAA at a public forum.

He named Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav, Bahujan Samaj Party's Mayawati and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee while throwing the "challenge".

Congress has become blind due to vote bank politics,"he said. He also blamed the Congress for Partition.

New Delhi, Jan 27: Remember the story of two friends coming face-to-face with a bear in a forest? One of the two friends climbs the tree to save his life and the other, not knowing how to, lays on the ground, breathless, pretending to be dead.

Well, that lesson turned out to be useful for this man who pretended to be dead when a tiger had both his paws on the man's chest.

Yes, that is right. IFS officer Parveen Kaswan recently shared a video of a man lying under a tiger, with their faces extremely close to each other with the caption, "You want to see how does a narrow escape looks like in case of an encounter with a #tiger. #Tiger was cornered by the crowd. But fortunately, the end was fine for both man and tiger. Sent by a senior."

Another Twitter user shared the full 30-second video in the comments. He also said that the incident occured in Tumsar in Bhandara district, Maharashtra. The spine-chilling clip shows a tiger running freely in the fields trying to avoid people who have surrounded him and are trying to shoo him away.

In his quest to run away, the scared tiger grabs a human. When he sees that people are still approaching him and trying to scare him away, he gets up and runs away for his life. All this while, the man who was captured by the animal lays still on the ground and does not make an attempt to get free.

This is what stuck with Twitter and they are praising the man for his presence of mind.
