Ahmedabad, September 5: In a big blow for the Gujarat government ahead of assembly elections at the end of the year, former state Home Minister and close aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, has been chargesheeted by the CBI in the Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case.

Virtually the entire top brass of the Gujarat police that was posted in the CID when Tulsiram Prajapati was gunned down in an encounter in December 2006, has been put in the dock by the CBI in its chargesheet filed in a Banaskantha court.
Modi's trusted aide Amit Shah, who was minister in charge of the police force, then, is accused of murder, conspiracy and destruction of evidence.

Not only has RK Patel, the CID Deputy SP who investigated the case been chargesheeted, his seniors, right up to the DGP, face possible arrest soon.

Among others who have been named in the case are - PC Pande, who was DGP when the Tulsi Prajapati encounter happened, Geetha Johri, who was IGP (CID) when Tulsi was killed and OP Mathur, who headed the CID as ADGP and is now retired.

All the three officers - PC Pande, OP Mathur and Johri - were supervisory officers in the CID's investigation of the encounter. The CBI clearly feels that they can be tried for destruction of evidence as they willfully led investigations in the wrong direction.

Johri says, "I've been framed wrongly in this case. I was the supervisor for this case for only two months. The CBI is used by the central government in centre-state politics.

Tulsi Prajapati was a close aide of Sohrabuddin Shaikh who was also killed in a fake encounter in November 2005. Tulsi was killed in December 2006 by the same set of cops who are presently behind bars for the killing of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and his wife Kauser Bi.

The JMFC court at Danta in Banaskantha district has fixed September 10 as the date to hear an application by the accused whether the CBI can file its chargesheet at the Danta court or not. Once that matter is settled, the competent court will issue non-bailable warrants against those chargesheeted, leaving them with the only option of filing anticipatory bail pleas.

New Delhi, Apr 19: The government on Sunday prohibited the sale of non-essential items through e-commerce platforms during the ongoing lockdown, four days after allowing such companies to sale mobile phones, refrigerators and ready-made garments.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla issued an order excluding the non-essential items from sale by the e-commerce companies from the consolidated revised guidelines, which listed the exemption given to the services and people from the purview of the lockdown.

The order said the following clause "E-commerce companies. Vehicles used by e-commerce operators will be allowed to ply with necessary permissions" is excluded from the guidelines.

The previous order had said such items were allowed for sale through e-commerce platforms from April 20.

However, the reason for reversing the order is not known immediately.

Jan 7: A Delhi Court today issued death warrant against four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case. The hanging will take place on January 22 at 7 am.

During the hearing, the prosecution said there was no application pending before any court or the President right now by any of the convicts and the review petition of all the convicts was dismissed by the Supreme Court.

On Monday, the court had reserved order on issuing of death warrants against four death row convicts.

Today's order comes days after mother of the victim in the 2012 Delhi gang-rape and murder case moved the Supreme Court on opposing the plea filed by one of the four death-row convicts seeking review of its 2017 judgement awarding him death penalty.

The apex court had on July 9 last year dismissed the review pleas filed by the other three convicts — Mukesh (30), Pawan Gupta (23) and Vinay Sharma (24) — in the case, saying no grounds have been made out by them for review of the 2017 verdict.

The 23-year-old girl was gangraped and murdered by six men on a moving bus on 16 December 2012. The main accused, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail during the trial. Another accused was a minor at the time of the commission of the crime and was sent to a reform facility and released after three years.

New Delhi, Feb 4: Miffed over the controversy created by its former Union minister and Uttara Kannada MP Anantkumar Hegde by his remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, the BJP, it was learnt, has issued a show-cause notice to him. The ruling party came under heavy criticism from the opposition over its MP’s remarks. The opposition has demanded a clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his party MP’s remarks.

Often in news for his controversial remarks, Hegde, sources said, could also be barred from attending the first parliamentary party meeting of the BJP of the budget session, scheduled on Tuesday. The party had taken a similar approach against its Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur during the last winter session for praising Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse. Though the BJP leadership was earlier of the view that Hegde should tender an apology over his remarks but the party top brass, it was learnt, decided that it was not enough.

The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the central government over the comments of BJP Lok Sabha MP Ananthkumar Hegde on Mahatma Gandhi. The party demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi come to Parliament and clarify his position on BJP leader’s “objectionable” remarks.

Congress party spokesman Anand Sharma said, “we can understand that why one after the other senior BJP leaders are insulting the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. They are disparaging the national movement, the freedom struggle because they are ideological descendents of those who were not only non-participants, but, actively opposed the freedom movement.” He further added, “Parliament is in session. We demand that the Prime Minister come to the House and make his position clear. As I have said, feeds that he is unhappy and angry, we are not concerned with that. In the very ideology, mindset, thinking and language of the BJP, there is violence.”

Asserting that the BJP MP’s statement was condemnable, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the leaders of the saffron party could afford to call the freedom movement a drama as they never fought for the country’s independence. “Such statements reveal their true mindset that they use Gandhi's name just for show and have no regard for him,” he said.
