Kejriwal has basic instinct to malign Sonia's family: Digvijay

New Delhi, October 14: Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh today accused Arvind Kejriwal of having "basic instinct to malign Sonia Gandhi's family" and asked him to stop using the national flag during his protests for "political purposes".

Rejecting Kejriwal's allegations against the Congress President's son-in-law Robert Vadra about his business deals with DLF and over the functioning of Law Minister Salman Khurshid's NGO as "baseless", Singh said that after being "exposed" by Anna Hazare, who parted ways with him, the IAC activist-turned politician was looking for a political space.

"After being exposed by Anna Hazare, Kejriwal is looking out for a political space, which he is trying to occupy by either connecting a disconnected electric connection or making false allegations against Vadra and DLF and now (on Khurshid’s trust) on basis of some sting operation done by a channel and finally leading an agitation to the Prime Minister's home," the AICC leader told PTI.

Singh said, "There are a few questions, which Kejriwal should be answering himself, which at some point of time I would like to bring in public domain." He, however, declined to state what were those questions, saying they will be brought out at appropriate time.

Asked about the controversy surrounding the trust run by Khurshid's wife and Kejriwal pitching for the resignation of the Law Minister over the issue, Singh shot back asking, "Has an FIR been filed in the case? The matter is under investigation.

"Once something illegal is found by the state and the central government, naturally an FIR will be lodged. Has an FIR been lodged? Khurshid has already said that he is going to take Kejriwal to the court," he said.

Asked about Vadra-DLF business links, Singh said that the issue of Vadra and his business deals with the realty major is "confined to the two private individuals" and, therefore, the "government has nothing to do with it".

On senior ministers and party leaders defending Vadra against Kejriwal's allegation if the matter was between two private individuals, Singh said, "It was not in defence. It was against the basic intent of Kejriwal to malign the name of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's family."

New Delhi, Jan 22: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said Indian values consider all religions equal, and that is why the country is secular and never became a theocratic state like Pakistan.

Speaking at the NCC Republic Day Camp in Delhi, Singh said: "We (India) said we would not discriminate among religions. Why did we do that? Our neighbouring country has declared that their state has a religion. They have declared themselves a theocratic state. We didn't declare so."

"Even America is a theocratic country. India is not a theocratic country. Why? Because our saints and seers did not just consider the people living within our borders as part of the family, but called everyone living in the world as one family," the minister said.

Singh underlined that India had never declared its religion would be Hindu, Sikh or Buddhist and people of all religions could live here.

"They gave the slogan of 'Vasudev Kutumbakam' -- the whole world is one family. This message has gone to the whole world from here only," he added.

Very thoughtful and eye-catching statement by Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh.

Sir, I kindly request you to convey this beautiful message to your Party’s comrades, who are deprived of this dosage for long times and are badly need of this.

Also, for those from your Party, who are, time and again, spitting the venomous rhetoric against Dalits, Muslims, Christians and others alike.

Yashwant Sinhaji is now doing a wonderful job in this regard.

You will also follow his suit for sure in the days to come; that’s what your honest statement indicates.

New Delhi, Jul 27: India’s coronavirus epidemic is now growing at the fastest in the world, increasing 20% over the last week to more than 14 lakh confirmed cases, according to Bloomberg’s Coronavirus Tracker.

Infections in the South Asian nation of 130 crore people have reached 14.3 lakh, including 32,771 deaths, India’s health ministry said, with daily cases close to a record 50,000 on Monday. India is only trailing the US and Brazil now in the number of confirmed infections, but its growth in new cases is the fastest.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are among the states where the maximum number of daily cares are being reported. The world’s second-most populous country has been ramping up testing, with 515,472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Still, India and Brazil have some of the world’s lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively, compared to the US with 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project based at the University of Oxford in the UK.
