New Delhi, October 20: A day after BJP MP Ram Jethmalani claimed that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is also in favour of projecting Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate of the party in 2014, the organisation has reiterated the known position that it was for the BJP to decide on the issue.

The RSS chief told television channels he has nothing to say on the subject and it was for Mr. Jethmalani to clarify.

“I told Mr. Bhagwat that Mr. Modi has better chance and is more qualified than anybody else … My impression, distinctly, was that Mr. Bhagwat agreed with me on the issue,” Mr. Jethmalani told a news channel.

However, RSS spokesperson Ram Madhav said the issue of the Prime Ministerial candidate is the BJP’s prerogative.

“Meetings do take place. Whether the Sarsanghchalak was affirmative ( regarding Mr. Jethmalani's view), only he can tell you... You have one version of it. The other version can only be given by the RSS chief,” he said.

Mr. Madhav said party leaders meet Mr. Bhagwat and express their views on a range of subjects. The RSS position on most of the on organisational matters is that it is for the party to decide.

“These issues are all prerogative of the party,” Mr. Madhav said, stressing that RSS has a long standing position that “such issues will only be decided by the party.”

Two days ago Mr. Jethmalani had written to BJP chief Nitin Gadkari saying the party should project Mr. Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

“It is my view that our campaign pre-2014 can make no impression unless... we are agreed on who is going to be the Prime Minister if the BJP is in a commanding position. I do not think the choice is difficult. I would, myself, want Mr. Modi whose integrity and administrative ability are not in doubt. We owe our voters a correct exposition of our brand of secularism. The minorities must be given complete assurance of security and opportunities for becoming prosperous. All past wrongs must be forgiven and forgotten. This requires projecting those who have earned the respect of minorities,” he said.

Kolkata, Jun 29: Sweet-loving Bengalis have something to cheer about in COVID-19 time as the West Bengal government decided to come out with a "sandesh" which will contain honey from Sundarbans and increase immunity, an official said on Sunday.

Cotton cheese made from cow milk will be mixed with pure honey from the Sunderbans to prepare the "Arogya Sandesh" which will also have extracts of tulsi leaves, an official of the Animal Resources Development Department said.

No artificial flavours would be added to the sweetmeat which will be available in the department's outlets in the city and neighbouring districts, he said.

The sandesh will boost the immune system as a whole but it is not a COVID-19 antidote, the official said.

Sunderbans Affairs Minister Manturam Pakhira said the honey for making Arogya Sandesh will be collected from beehives in places such as Pirkhali, Jharkhali and other parts of the Sunderbans and it will be stored in a scientific manner.

The sandesh is expected to hit the shelves in another two months and the pricing will be within the reach of the common man, the animal resources development department official said.

Earlier this month, a reputed sweetmeat chain of Kolkata came out with an "Immunity Sandesh" claiming that it contains various herbs and spices such as haldi (turmeric), tulsi, saffron, and cardamom and Himalayan honey, which will boost immunity to fight novel coronavirus.

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 6 : Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that Congress is known for adopting a soft Hindutva agenda and that there was nothing new in the remarks of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi on Ayodhya temple construction.

"I am not surprised regarding, Priyanka Gandhi's remark on Ayodhya. From Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao, Congress had followed a similar stance. I don't think Congress has any stand when it comes to secularism.

If it was the case, then our country would not have reached such a level," the chief minister said when asked about the 'Bhumi Pujan' ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on Wednesday.

"There is nothing new on Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi's position on the issue. They are following the Congress' soft Hindutva agenda. There is no element of surprise," Vijayan said.

Further, Vijayan said that CPI(M) Politburo had made clear the party's viewpoint on the Ayodhya temple construction.

"When it comes to Ayodhya issue. I want to ask who had allowed worship there. It was Congress. Who had allowed to lay the idol there? It was Congress.

Who gave permission to Karseva? It was Congress. Even when it came to demolition of Babri Masjid too who shut their eyes and gave a silent nod for it- wasn't it the Congress regime at the centre? And Muslim League (IUML) was part of it. These are all part of our history," said Kerala Chief Minister.

He said instead of involving in discussions on it, more time should be utilised towards containing the COVID-19 spread in the country and helping the poor who are suffering due to the pandemic.
