Thiruvananthapuram, October 21: Members of Parliament A. Sampath and M.P. Achuthan have demanded action against the CISF personnel at the Thiruvananthapuram airport and the crew of the Air India Express flight that was diverted from Nedumbassery on Friday for illegal detention and harassment of passengers including women and children.
Addressing reporters here on Saturday, they said the unsavoury incidents at the Thiruvananthapuram airport on Friday were part of a move to tarnish the image of Air India Express. They accused the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Air India management of joining hands with foreign airlines to sabotage the low-cost national carrier.
Mr. Sampath said the false hijack alarm by the pilot of the aircraft had led to a high alert at airports across the country.
“Both the CISF personnel and the airline crew are reported to have misbehaved with passengers who were denied food and water for hours. It reflects the negative attitude of Air India and the Civil Aviation Ministry towards passengers from Kerala, most of whom travel to the Gulf on employment visas.”
Mr. Achuthan called on the government to drop the cases taken against six passengers on board the flight and take action against the airline crew instead for harassing the passengers after diverting the flight from Nedumbassery to Thiruvananthapuram. The MPs urged the Union ministers from Kerala to take up the issue with the Civil Aviation Ministry and Air India.
