New Delhi, November 5: Senior BJP leader and top lawyerMahesh Jethmalani has resigned as member of the national executive committee of the party, and has linked his resignation to the continuance of Nitin Gadkari as the party president.
In a direct letter written to Nitin Gadkari, Mahesh Jethmalani has said that it is morally and intellectually inappropriate for him to be in the national executive committee under the BJP chief.
Later, speaking to reporters Jethmalani said that he was not satisfied with the explanation given by Nitin Gadkari over the corruption charges levelled against him.
He also slammed BJP president's comment comparing the IQ of Vivekananda and underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
This is perhaps the first public fallout of the row over charges against Nitin Gadkari and will mount pressure on him to quit as the party chief.
The BJP, however, downplayed Mahesh Jethmalani's resignation.
Party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said it was wrong on part of party workers to go to the media with letters. He expressed surprise over the fact that the letter reached the media first.
