Narendra Modi finally impresses Muslim Youths in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, November 24: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi might be relieved ahead of the crucial assembly elections in the state. It seems that Muslim youths in the state are impressed by the CM and are ready to forget their woes over 2002 riots.

Times of India quoted the chairman of the Joint Committee of Muslim Organisations for Empowerment (JCMOE), Syed Shahabuddin as saying that their community has noticed "some signs of change" in Modi's attitude. However, the organisation chief also set some conditions for the CM.

Syed said that they would support Modi in his dream of "rebuilding Gujarat" if the CM shows an "expression of sorrow" over Gujarat riots. Along with an "apology", the organisation chief also demanded for at least 20 assembly tickets to Muslims.

Syed was quoted as saying, "This (seats for Muslims) would give the community representation according to its population (10%) in the state. Token nomination of one or two Muslims, personally known to you, will not do.

" Syed also sought "a promise to give Muslims equitable share in the benefits of development at all levels, particularly in education and employment." Despite their several demands and conditions, it seems that the Gujarat CM has finally wooed the Muslim youths who earlier were not even ready to acknowledge Modi's good deeds for their community in the state.

The Gujarat assembly elections will be held in two phases on Dec 13 and Dec 17 and the results will be declared on Dec 20.

Islamic Centre of India issues advisory for reopening of mosques

New Delhi, Jun 7: The Islamic Centre of India on Saturday issued an advisory for those visiting mosques in view of the Centre’s decision to allow reopening of religious places from June 8.

Islamic Centre of India chairman Maulana Khalid Rasheed Farangi Mahali advised people above 65 years and under 10 years of age not to visit mosques and instead offer prayers at home.

He also advised against crowding in mosques, stressing that not more than five people should be present at a time and social distancing be maintained, with the ‘namazis’ using masks and keeping a distance of six feet among themselves while offering prayers.

He added that the situation would be reviewed after 15 days and if required, another advisory would be issued.

I and B Minister Prakash Javadekar condemns alleged attack on Arnab Goswami

New Delhi, Apr 23: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar, on Thursday condemned the attack on Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami saying that this is "against democracy".

"We condemn the attempt to attack renowned journalist Arnab Goswami. Essentially, we condemn every attack on any journalist. Because this is against democracy," the Union Minister said.

"It is really ironical that those who preach tolerance have become so intolerant. Therefore, we condemn this attempt. We appeal to the collective wisdom that this is undemocratic. As per present law, definitely, police takes action, if there is a complaint," said Javadekar.

Two persons were arrested on Thursday morning for allegedly attacking Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami and his wife Samyabrata Ray in Mumbai.

India sees highest single-day spike of 20,903 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 6,25,544

New Delhi, Jul 3: India reported the highest ever single-day spike of 20,903 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours on Friday, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With these new cases, India's coronavirus tally has risen to 6,25,544 cases of which 2,27,439 patients are active cases while 3,79,892 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

379 more deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the number of deaths due to the infection to 18,213.

As per the Health Ministry, Maharashtra -- the worst-affected state from the virus -- has a total of 1,86,626 cases including 8,178 fatalities while Tamil Nadu has 98,392 coronavirus cases in the state inclusive of 1,321 fatalities.

Delhi has reported 92,175 cases so far inclusive of 2,864 patients succumbing to the virus.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Friday said that the total number of samples tested till July 2 is 92,97,749 of which 2,41,576 samples were tested on Thursday.
