New Delhi, November 24: Yoga expert Ramdev is in the spotlight again after he made a statement comparing the hanging of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks convict Ajmal Kasab with that of freedom movement revolutionary Bhagat Singh's execution.

"The government, in order to regain the confidence of the people hanged Kasab," said Ramdev, continuing, "It has made him a hero. It hanged him in secrecy the way Bhagat Singh was hanged. Kasab should have been hanged in public."

The statement, however, has been slammed by political parties. The BJP said that caution must be exercised when comparing two people. Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "I think that we should be cautious while comparing anyone with anyone else. I don' think that this is a good comparison and this should be avoided."

Ajmal Kasab was executed at 7.30 am on Wednesday, November 21, at Yerwada Central Prison in Pune in what was a top secret intelligence operation. Kasab was the lone terrorist captured alive from the 26/11 Mumbai carnage that left 166 people dead and over 200 injured.

Kasab was buried in the jail complex itself after Pakistan refused to claim the body. Pakistan has been maintaining that Kasab is not its citizen. However, after reports of Kasab's execution emerged, sources in Islamabad said that it wouldn't deny its repercussions on Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh's mercy plea.

Pune, Jul 4: Now that wearing mask in public places has become the new normal, a resident of Pimpri-Chinchwad of Pune district, Shankar Kurade has got himself a mask made of gold worth Rs 2.89 lakhs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It's a thin mask with minute holes so that there is no difficulty in breathing. I am not sure whether this mask will be effective," said Kurade.

Kurade loves wearing gold ornaments and his hands and neck are loaded with jewellery.

This unique idea struck him soon after he saw a man wearing a silver mask on social media.

"I saw a video on social media of a man in Kolhapur wearing a silver mask and then an idea struck me to have a mask of gold. I talked to a goldsmith and he gave me this five and a half pound gold mask in a week," said Kurade.

"All my family members love gold, if they too demand it, then I will get it designed for them too. I do not know if I will be infected with coronavirus wearing a gold mask or not, but following all the rules of the government can prevent the spread of virus," he added.

Since childhood, Shankar is very fond of gold ornaments, that is the reason he wears gold rings in all the fingers, gold bracelets on his wrist and huge gold chains around his neck.

New Delhi, Jul 19: With the highest single-day spike of 38,902 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India's total COVID-19 tally on Sunday reached 10,77,618, informed the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday.

The death toll has gone up to 26,816 with 543 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry said the total number of cases includes 3,73,379 active cases and 6,77,423 patients have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra remains the worst affected state with 3,00,937 cases reported until Saturday.
Meanwhile, as per the information provided by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,34,33,742 samples have been tested for COVID-19 till July 18, of these 3,61,024 samples were tested yesterday.
