Petrol to cost Rs 72.96 per litre in Bangalore

PetrolBangalore, Jun 16: A litre of petrol in Bangalore will now cost Rs 72.96, up from Rs 70.33, after  oil companies effected a Rs-2 increase in petrol prices from Saturday midnight.

This is the second hike in a fortnight. Oil companies had increased petrol prices by 75 paise on June 1 (excluding VAT).

The steep hike in prices have been announced after the rupee weakened sharply against the US dollar and the international oil prices spiked. The hike of Rs 2 per litre excludes local taxes or VAT, which varies from state to state. After the latest hike, petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 66.39 from Rs 63.99 earlier, while in Mumbai, it will sell at Rs 74.60.  In Kolkata, rates went up from Rs 71.29 to Rs 73.79 per litre.

In Chennai, prices were hiked by Rs 2.54 to Rs 69.39. In Bangalore, a litre of petrol will cost Rs 72.96, up from Rs 70.33.

The country’s largest fuel retailer Indian Oil Corporation said in a statement the combined impact of rupee depreciation and hardening of oil prices in the international market warranted the increase in the base price of petrol by Rs 2 per litre.

“Since the last price change, the slide in rupee (against the US dollar) has continued and the USD-INR exchange rate has deteriorated from Rs 55.32 to Rs 57.08 per USD,” IOC said.

Diesel prices were, however, left untouched as the OMCs have been following the government’s guidelines of increasing the prices by small quanta of 45-50 paise every month.  The next diesel price revision is due on June 30.

New Delhi, Feb 13: The BJP's Amit Shah today said statements like "goli maaro" and "Indo-Pak match" should not have been made by BJP leaders ahead of the Delhi elections.

The BJP may have suffered in the elections because of hate statements made by party leaders, he said, reported news agency Press Trust of India.

The party, he said, had distanced itself from such remarks.

Kochi, Mar 30: Kerala High Court on Monday granted interim bail to the under-trial prisoners and remanded accused in the state till April 30 in view of the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The court said that the accused should report to the local police station immediately after getting bail. Those released on bail must strictly follow the lockdown instructions, the High Court said.

"Those who have been convicted of imprisonment for less than seven years will get bail. Prison Superintendents will release the prisoners who are eligible. But regular offenders are not entitled to get bail," the court said.

After the bail period, the accused should appear in the respective trial courts, where a decision will be taken on their bail by the respective trial courts.

The Supreme Court had last week asked all state governments to release undertrial prisoners, who are facing charges attracting less than seven years imprisonment, to reduce overcrowding of jails amid the ongoing coronavirus scare.

So far, 194 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state.

The country is under a 21-day lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, which according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has claimed the lives of 29 people and infected a total of 1071 people as on Monday morning.

New Delhi, Jan 22: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has assets worth Rs 3.4 crore, an increase of Rs 1.3 crore from 2015, according to his election affidavit.

Kejriwal's total assets were worth Rs 2.1 crore in 2015.

The cash and fixed deposits of Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal increased from Rs 15 lakh in 2015 to Rs 57 lakh in 2020.

A party functionary said Rs 32 lakh worth cash and fixed deposits have been received by Sunita Kejriwal as voluntary retirement benefits while the rest are savings.

The cash and fixed deposits of the chief minister increased from Rs 2.26 lakh in 2015 to Rs 9.65 lakh in 2020.

There was no change in the value of immovable assets of his wife while Kejriwal's immovable assets' worth increased from Rs 92 lakh to Rs 177 lakh.

The party functionaries said increase in Kejriwal's immovable assets' worth is due to the increased valuation of the same asset as in 2015.
