Asaram_BapuJodhpur, Sep 2: Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu has been remanded in 14-day judicial custody. He will be taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail.

The case against Asaram Bapu, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at his ashram, is "very strong" and the investigation is moving in the right direction, Jodhpur Police on Monday said.

"Our case is very strong and moving in the right direction. More time would be required to complete the probe, and it would be decided at the time of producing Asaram whether to seek more time for police custody or judicial custody", Jodhpur DPC Ajay Pal Lamba earlier told reporters.

72-year-old Asaram was on Sunday remanded in police custody for a day after being grilled by Jodhpur Police for about four hours.

Asked about reports that Asaram was suffering from a neuro disorder, the DCP said, "It has been proved to be a lie. His son can say what he wants to say. We can't comment on anybody's statement".

"A team of doctors said he is perfectly OK. He is mentally and physically fit," Lamba said, adding he will be soon produced before court to seek more time for investigation.

"The accused is also taking food whenever served", the DCP said.

Asaram had cleared a potency test conducted on him at the SN Medical college. He was also taken to his Manai Ashram, about 30 kms from Jodhpur, where the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Police had conducted a physical verification and tried to create the scene of crime.

Asaram has denied sexual assault charges lodged against him by the schoolgirl.

His arrest followed an FIR filed by the girl alleging she was sexually assaulted by Asaram at his ashram in this Rajasthan city.

New Delhi, Jul 27: India’s coronavirus epidemic is now growing at the fastest in the world, increasing 20% over the last week to more than 14 lakh confirmed cases, according to Bloomberg’s Coronavirus Tracker.

Infections in the South Asian nation of 130 crore people have reached 14.3 lakh, including 32,771 deaths, India’s health ministry said, with daily cases close to a record 50,000 on Monday. India is only trailing the US and Brazil now in the number of confirmed infections, but its growth in new cases is the fastest.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are among the states where the maximum number of daily cares are being reported. The world’s second-most populous country has been ramping up testing, with 515,472 samples taken on Sunday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Still, India and Brazil have some of the world’s lowest testing rates, with 11.8 tests and 11.93 tests per 1,000 people respectively, compared to the US with 152.98 tests per 1,000 and Russia with 184.34, according to Our World in Data, a project based at the University of Oxford in the UK.

Mumbai, May 10: Air India, which is operating flights to evacuate Indians stranded in foreign countries, have asked its pilots to undertake coronavirus test before they operate such flights, the sources said.

"Five Air India pilots have tested positive for coronavirus. These pilots were tested one after one. We suspect it could be a case of faulty testing kit as well," one of the sources said.

The five pilots fly Boeing 787 planes, the second source said.

Air India spokesperson did not offer any comment.

A senior airline official said the five pilots had not operated any flight in the last three weeks.

"These pilots had operated cargo flights to China prior to April 20," the official said.
