Madhya Pradesh, Sep 10: Pradesh police have arrested a 32-year-old RSS worker for sending text messages (SMSes) to top police officers and government officials which claimed that there was a threat to the life of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Jai Kumar Kushwaha was arrested on Sunday in the Chhatarpur district and charged with criminal intimidation and offences under the Information Technology Act. His messages had triggered panic among security personnel during Chouhan's visit to Chhatarpur. Police said that Kushwaha used a SIM card he had purchased using his uncle's identity card; the two were not on good terms.

Coronavirus cases climb to 341 in India

New Delhi, Mar 22: The total number of novel coronavirus cases in India rose to 341 on Sunday after fresh cases were reported from various parts of the country, the Union Health Ministry said.
The total includes 41 foreign nationals and five deaths, the latest being reported from Maharashtra, taking the death toll in the state to two.
Delhi, Karnataka and Punjab have reported one death each so far. Twenty-four others have been cured/discharged/migrated.
The figure of 341 cases include 63 cases in Maharashtra, which has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases, including three foreigners.
Kerala has reported 52 cases, including seven foreign nationals.
Delhi has reported 27 positive cases, including a foreigner, while Uttar Pradesh has recorded 25 cases, including a foreigner.
Telangana has reported 21 cases, including 11 foreigners. Rajasthan has reported 24 cases, including two foreigners.
In Haryana, there are 17 cases, which include 14 foreigners.
Karnataka has 20 coronavirus patients. Punjab and Ladakh have 13 cases each. Gujarat has 14 cases while Tamil Nadu has 6 cases, which includes 2 foreigners. Chandigarh has five cases.
Madhya Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and West Bengal reported four cases each. Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand have reported three cases each. Odisha and Himachal Pradesh reported 2 cases each.
Puducherry and Chhattisgarh have reported one case each.

President Kovind, PM Modi extend greetings to countrymen on Rakshabandhan

New Delhi, Aug 3: President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm greetings and good wishes to the countrymen on the occasion of Rakshabandhan.
The President in his message said, "Greetings on Raksha Bandhan! Rakhi is the sacred thread of love and trust that connects sisters with brothers in a special bond. On this day, let us reiterate our commitment to secure the honour and dignity of women."
"Many wishes to all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan," Prime Minister Modi tweeted in Hindi.
Rakshabandhan, which is being celebrated today, is a celebration of the unique bond between brothers and sisters. Tying of the Rakhi by sisters, symbolises love, affection and mutual trust between brothers and sisters.

CBIC extends validity of e-way bills till May 31

New Delhi, May 6: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the validity of electronic way (E-way) bills, whose expiry date fell between March 20 and April 15, till May 31.
"Notification No. 40/2020-Central Tax issued to extend the validity of e-way bills till May 31 for all those e-way bills which were generated on or before March 24, 2020 and had expiry between the period from March 20 to April 15, 2020," the CBIC tweeted on Tuesday.
E-way bill is produced by transporters and businessmen before a Goods and Services Tax (GST) inspector for moving goods worth over Rs 50,000 from one state to another.
