Days after blasts, Patna to host another rally

Patna_Blast Patna, Oct 30: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) is holding its rally here amid tight security Wednesday, barely three days after a string of explosions here left six dead and over 80 injured.

The serial blasts in Patna took place Sunday before Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was to address a rally at the sprawling Gandhi Maidan.

Thousands of cadres and supporters of the CPI(M-L) with red flags and banners are to participate in the `kharbardar' (be warned) rally, ignoring threat perception, police officials said.

Patna District Magistrate N. Saravana Kumar shifted the CPI(M-L) rally venue to the Miller School ground and the adjoining Birchand Patel Marg from the original venue of Gandhi Maidan in view of the security concern. The police are not taking any chances.

"An elaborate security arrangement have been made for the CPI(M-L) rally in Patna following three more bombs recovered in and around Gandhi Maidan Tuesday. Police will have to be on maximum alert," Kumar told media persons here.

He said metal detectors and CCTVs have been installed at the CPI(M-L) rally venue.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Manu Maharaj said additional security forces have been deployed.

Kumar said that district authorities denied permission to CPI(M-L) to hold their rally at Gandhi Maidan as police and the National Security Guard were still suspecting that there could be more bombs in the ground and nearby areas.

"Gandhi Maidan would remain closed to the public for days as security forces are searching for bombs," he said.

A series of blasts took place Sunday before Modi was to address the BJP rally, leaving six dead and over 80 injured. One of the terrorists has been arrested while another is lying in a hospital in a critical condition.

Rajasthan Assembly passes resolution against CAA

Jaipur, Jan 26: Rajasthan on Saturday on Saturday became the third state in the country to pass a resolution urging the Centre to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

he resolution was passed in the state Assembly amid opposition by the BJP which accused the ruling Congress of pursuing appeasement politics.

It is the second Congress-ruled state to pass such a resolution after Punjab. The Kerala Assembly too had passed such a resolution against the CAA moved jointly by the ruling Left Front alliance and the opposition Congress-led UDF.

The Rajasthan Assembly resolution, passed by voice vote, also asked the Centre to withdraw the new fields of information that have been sought for updation of the National Population Register (NPR) 2020.

"It is evident that the CAA violates the provisions of the Constitution. Therefore, the House resolves to urge upon the government of India to repeal the CAA to avoid any discrimination on the basis of religion in granting citizenship and to ensure equality before law for all religious groups of India," the state's parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal said, moving the resolution.

Leader of the opposition Gulab Chand Kataria of the BJP questioned the state's right to challenge the Act.

"Granting citizenship is a matter for the Centre. In such a situation do we have the right to challenge the CAA? The Congress should stop doing appeasement and vote bank politics," he said.

Salute to Rajasthan Govt for rejecting communal and black CAA bill. This bill is agaisnt the teach of our Constitution and bjp has never done anything as per our constitutin. Its trying its best to scrap the constitution and restore it with RSS agenda. We should oppose any move by bjp against the value of constitution. As bjp has no respect to our constitution, it has no right to be in power. Many of bjp leaders are giving statemetns against the value of constitution and such leaders should be treated as anti indians and action be taken on them.

Coronavirus scare: India suspends airlines from China, visas declared 'invalid'

The government suspended all the India-bound air travel from China and has declared all visas 'invalid', on Monday, due to the rapid escalation of cases of novel coronavirus outbreak which originated in Wuhan.

"Embassy and our Consulates have been receiving several queries from Chinese citizens as well as other foreign nationals, who are based out of China or visited China in the last 2 weeks, as to whether they can use their valid single/multiple entry visas to travel to India," tweeted the Embassy of India in Beijing, China.

"It is clarified that existing visas are no longer valid. Intending visitors to India should contact the Indian Embassy in Beijing ([email protected]) or the Consulates in Shanghai ([email protected]) and Guangzhou ([email protected]) to apply afresh for an Indian visa," it said.

Further, regarding the validity of visas, the embassy said, "Indian Visa Application Centres (http://blsindia-china.com) in these cities may also be contacted in this regard. Visa Section of the Embassy/Consulates of India in China can be contacted to ascertain the validity of visa before undertaking any visit to India."

"All those who are already in India (with regular or e-visa) and had traveled from China after January 15 are requested to contact the hotline number of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of Government of India (+91-11-23978046 and email: [email protected])," the embassy said.

India sees spike of 22,752 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 7,42,417

New Delhi, Jul 8: India has reported a spike of 22,752 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 7,42,417 on Wednesday, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases reported, 4,56,830 patients have been cured/discharged from the disease while one patient has been migrated, the Health Ministry informed.

It added that there are 2,64,944 active cases in the country.

482 deaths reported in the last 24 hours due to COVID-19 in the country, taking India's death toll to 20,642.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state reporting 2,17,121 coronavirus cases and 9,250 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu -- the second worst-affected state from COVID-19 -- has a total of 1,18,594 cases and 1,636 deaths due to coronavirus.

While Delhi has a total of 1,02,831 COVID-19 cases including 3,165 deaths.

The Indian Council of Medical Research on Wednesday informed that a total of 1,04,73,771 samples tested for COVID-19 up to July 7. Of these, 2,62,679 samples were tested on Tuesday.
